It is definitely not "a risky job at the best of times".

I don't know where you work but, in comparison to someone working in an office day and daily, the threat of being physically or mortally injured when you go out on duty poses a much greater risk in my view.

Riskier than an office job certainly but not for policemen who spend most of their time in the office or at home sick.
Anyway, the point is that since qualified people are falling over themselves to join it's obviously seen as a very attractive occupation which might just be something to do with the level of pay. Why not cut it and see what happens?

Yeah your right : insert rolly eyes sarcastic smile: we can't have qualified people as police officers, that would just not do at all;) an intelligent police force we can do without eh, they just need height and strength to get in the way and act as a barrier:rotfl:

It may be well paid but I wouldn't fancy looking under my car every day and wondering every time I turn the ignition will it be the last :o

If its so well paid and such a good job why don't you apply ?
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

Do at least attempt to read the post before responding to it.

I think it's likely that a private employer finding such an overwhelming response to a job advert would conclude that they were paying too much.

Your logic is quite amusing at times. Most jobs in the current climate receive an overwhelming response by way of applications. Are you saying that's because they're paying too much and absolutely no reflection of the current job market at the moment?

Now our tight fisted employers are removing our radios because they wont pay the licence for them.

Are you a civil servant or is this just a random post?

I've been in the NICS for 10 years now, in a number of different offices, and I've never had one where a radio was on.
We do have one for the odd occasion that one of us has to do a media interview, but other than that, it isn't even plugged in.

I wasn't aware there was any such thing as a Radio Licence. Is there?

Radios have often been a source of strife when I've worked in large civil service offices. Nobody can agree on the same station or on what amounts to an appropriate volume therefore more often than not there's been a "no radio without headphones" policy.

Golden Anemone - Performing rights society usually ask for a payment from companies if they play music in the workplace/shops/etc. The money is given to the artists but I'm not sure how exactly its divvied out. I'm sure another company do this as well. There's a whole thread on MSE about it, mostly people complaining about paying PRS.

And the O/P says the Civil Service doesnt deserve its rep. :rotfl:
