I think you will find that the comparison websites do include the Eon discounts in the total expected costs. I live in Sussex and my total discounts are 25.9%, and I know this is included in the quoted cost & resultant saving

Yes I know, I never thought they didnt, what I was saying was if you do a comparison and E-on come up as saving you 10% then all of that saving (and then some) is in the discounts. The unit rates will definately be more than you are currently paying but the discounts make the tariff cheaper overall. This is more than likely what has happened in the OPs case.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

I think there's a touch of confusion - the OP was wondering how the E-on quote could be £400 cheaper when the raw unit prices looked more expensive.

    - or did you not mean to quote Plushchris's post?

Anyone got their fingers burnt switching?

nope, uswitch is good for identifying who you might want to switch too but you are better to then go via a cashback site to grab an extra £120 or so cashback on the switch.

If my useage in kWH stays similar to the last 2 years (2200 E, 1800 G) including cashback I'll be paying around £14 per month for gas and electric combined :)

If in doubt throw your annual useage into an excel sheet and do the sums yourself, standing charges and different high rate/low rate break points can have a sizeable effect on overall cost as well as cost per unit

We were sent one of those instant cost electric readout gizmos - put in your tariff and you can see how much you are using by the minute and by the day.
Impossible to enter a unit tariff for Eon - this is CONFUSION PRICING at its most blatant.

[STRIKE]Rubbish[/STRIKE]**Why not? Enter the tier 2 price* - the same as you do with every other tariff. If you are paying by direct debit and/or dual fuel and/or online account knock 18% or 25% or whatever off the tier 2 price before you enter it. End of.

(The meters only measure electricity. (Or do you have a gas one??) Therefore you can separate out the effective monthly standing charge - ( (900 x (tier 1 - tier 2)) / 12 ). You will pay that each month on top of what the gizmo suggests.)

    * Even if the meter accommodates a 2 tier price - I would never use that. Your primary query is wanting to find out what the consumption of the items that are on is - messing about with two-tier tariffs entered is [strike]silly[/strike]**unhelpful.

    ** I'm trying, I'm trying.

    My v6 Electricity is 22.1865/10.71:(
    Online Discount is 19.30%:(
    Other numbers the same.

Not another example of EON favouring the Scots, I hope.
