  • Same thing happened to my mum meter kept turning. Hers was that there was a problem with her toilet cistern and it kept filling up and refilling the toilet constantly.

Yes that is a lot more than you should use in an hour.

Where is your meter in relation to your stop tap in the house?
If the meter is in the street and the stop tap in the house is off then there is likely to be a leak in the pipe from one to the other. You need to make sure your inside stop tap is off and if the meter is still moving you will need to call the water board to come and check it.
All the time the meter is going round it is costing you money.

the stop !!!! a plastic topped one is incorporated alongside the meter in the front path I dont believe i have one inside. Any work has always been done by turning the mentioned tap off i went to a water meter some 2 years ago in fact my yearly bill has just arrived and the useage didnt figure as i say when i turn the tap off there is no movement on the meter scale my neighbour reckons i must be going through 6 litres an hour without use thanks

Really you need to turn off the water inside and if its still moving its an external leak, if your neighbours house is similar to yours it will probably be in a similar location

well after a missed apointment and waiting all day for nothing due to "sickness" yorkshire water sent Morrisons utilities to fix the problem which turned out to be a poorly fitted joint on the meter .they admitted it was poor workmanship , it was hand tight . So we are OK now . I wondered if i had a right to compensation 4 years of higher bills and a week of stress wondering what was going to happen . i know if they dont turn up on the day you are entitled to compensation, as well as a poor service .Does anyone want to share there views

I'm glad you have it sorted.

I would certainly query the amount of water you have been charged for. They have an idea of the amount of water your household should be using on a meter base on the number of occupants.
From your first post your readings seem high. You may possibly never of had an accurate bill. Unless these last bill has been drastically higher. Give them a ring and see what they say. I certainly would.
