Leaking Scale Inhibitor on boiler pipes

Hi, I have just had my boiler breakdown guy out who has confirmed that this is not covered by my breakdown plan - isnt this always the case. Anyway we have a small pin hole appear on the scale inhibitor, its leaking rather rapidly and I am having to empty a large bowl every 3-4 hours. Can anyone suggest a repair or should we just contact a plumber? what sort of price am I looking at for replacement and fitting.

Cheers

is it like this? and where is it leaking from?
usually just tightening the unions up will cure it.
    Get some gorm.
  • Hi no its like a long green thin canister with pipe going into top and bottom, its leaking from a pinhole in the actual side of the canister.

replace the canister or put a screw into the hole as a temp measure.

What is written on the canister - make/model?. Mostly these are / can be DIY jobs TBH.

  • Yeah thats a lot like it, we are complete useless diy people, would we need to turn the water off at stopcock before unscrewing and replacing? if we do this would we risk air getting into the boiler? how much does one of these costs to buy and where would we get one - sorry for so many questions lol
  • As a temporary repair you could put some Epoxy Resin Putty over the hole.
It can work, I have used it in the past to repair a radiator.
Mix a small piece first and hold it on with a piece of tape untill it sets then mix whats left and put on over the first piece.
Poundland sells it as wood/metal/plastic repair putty, it's all much the same stuff, just different colours.

try the Salamander Sesi Electrolytic Scale Inhibitor, from screwfix.
about 30/40 quid. simple to fit.

Did you check out make/model of existing beastie? If you get the same then it should just be a dropin replacement without need for piping changes for larger or, indeed, a smaller unit.
