Hate my phone

I have a Nokia 5800 on O2 and my contract is not due to end for another 7 months. I absolutely loathe the 5800. Does anyone know if its possible to change my phone or get an upgrade or something before my contract is up?

You'd have to buy a SIM free one I'm afraid. Maybe O2 might be kind and offer a good deal on one.

What do you hate about it? If you're not fussed on the warranty aspect of things, you could de-brand it and update to v40 which is supposed to be quite an improvement.

Or you could sell it and buy a different phone
  • Many thanks for your help. Might try O2, since I've been with them for year, but won't hold my breath!
The main thing that I hate about the phone is how when you make a call, the screen goes black and there is nothing you can do to get it to show again, so if you need to use the dialler, you can't. Also when I get a call, the screen goes black so i can't see who's calling. One other thing, which doesn't bug me so much, but which is still annoying is, even when I think the phone is upright, it still seems to think its on the side - it seems to have a mind of its own.

I'll look into the v40 thing that you mentioned, and also look at what else is out there at the moment. All I need is something I can make calls on and text!

    Thanks again

Your phone sounds faulty tbh, I've just sent my 5800 back to Nokia, I suggest you do the same. (I'm half hoping they say it's irrepairable and send me an N900, pigs fly right? :rotfl:)

a suggestion might be to go somewhere like phones for you they often will offer to buy out your last 6 months of contract - in short they give you cash back to cover 6 months of payments and you sign a new contract and new phone

    thank you Rusty!
    just done a de-brand and v40 software
what a difference, finds a gps signal in seconds not 10mins like before
and in general much faster to use

gonna try deband all the phones in the house

OP sounds like the light sensor between earpiece and 2nd camera not working (or covered?)
  • You just slide the switch on the side of the phone don't you?

It's a feature so you don't hit buttons on the keypad - it turns the touch sensitive off. You slide the slider, and hit the "Dialler" button, so then it lights up when you need it, and goes black when you don't

  • Thanks again for all your comments.
Thing was when the screen went black, not matter how many times I slid the slider, the screen just wouldn't come back.

As it happens, I traded it in at Carephone Warehouse and bought a Samsung S8000 Jet, which I love. I was happy with my contract, just not the phone.

Thanks again and good luck to those with 5800's who have problems too
