  • MMMmmm that doesn't sound right, I am no expert but someone will be along who is.

    I would give that card reader a go myself if you don't get any suggestions from the techies on here.

    Hi tractor boy , I see you get a noise when usb is plugged in do you get the icon allowing you to safely remove hardware , and if so what does it say you have on there?

    If you plug anything else USB based (e.g. a pendrive) into the PC, is it recognised OK?

    If not, you can usually fix this by going into Device Manager and deleting all of the system USB hubs and ports, and then rebooting the PC. They will then be auto-detected and will typically work properly again.

    If other USB devices work Ok, try changing the USB lead for another - they can fail without anything visibly looking wrong with them.

    Well worth trying to delete
