Am I starting to get really cynical about the role of Estate Agents?

I would seriously consider making a formal complaint with a view to getting those fees reduced.....they've not done half the job so why should pay them 100% of their fee?
Thanks - we'd love to do this but I think in the first instance (and pls correct me if I'm wrong) we would first need to try and resolve it with the Partner who has been as useless as his staff. Is it possible to lodge a complaint in the first instance with the NAEA? Not even sure which 'section' of whatever code of practice they have breached....?0 -

You have to go through any internal complaints proceedure before you can raise a complain with NAEA/Ombudsman Scheme.
If it's large Corporate then if you get no joy with the Partner then can you get Head Office's details?
If you want to PM with the company name I could find out for you?My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to sayIgnore......check!0 -
Thank you very much, MissMotivation. I will be raising an internal complaint - I do have the address.0

We tried 4 local and 2 online and the last online agent we got rightmove coverage and more viewers than from any of the local esate agents, we used housesimple, who are very similar to housenetwork but you dont have to pay a fee upfront.
When i come to sell again i will definately be using a online agent, i also used a online letting agent urban sales and lettings and they got us a load of viewings.
What made me go off estate agents was looking at the massive fees they make from not really doing a fat lot of work.
I mean the average house sells for 180,000 pounds, if the agent gets 1% that 1800 pound for taking a few photos, making a description and then answering the phone to arrange viewings, ive never had one accompany a viewing and the ones i used the fees where nearer 2%.
I know now ill get my head bit off by a load of estate agents, but thats the way i see it, and that opinion is from someone who as used a different method to sell and let his house..0
