I apologise for not replying - Family took the PC to a friend who would fix it - He's taken off Avira, MBAM and SAS, quoting it was too many, and put on AVG, but if anything, its just as bad, if not marginally worse. Left the PC for 20mins to find about 30 popups >.< All Betfair and PKR, wheras before it was slimming pills and only 1 or 2. So just trying to sort out what I can myself, will post ComfoFix log in a min.

Sounds like the 'friend' hasn't done you any favours. i removed AVG as it wasn't as good as it used to be. If I was you, I'd follow the advice on here from the likes of alienRik and dogmaryxx.

Yeah, tell me about it, i'm just looking at it and my head hurts, been using Avira, MBAM, and SAS for about 3 years >.<

And No to system restore, the virus was deleted a long time ago, the issue we have is BSOD and freezing frequently, with some popups, dispite a large multitude of scanners saying clear.

AVG free and paid for versions perform equally craply in independant tests, better off getting one of the good/reliable free ones such as Avira, Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials.

Kaspersky is a good paid for one but can be obtained free if you bank with Barclays.

The above works fine if you're sensible with PC use, but if its a family PC with users likely to go to all kinds of websites and click 'yes please install' to every piece of junk and malware that comes their way I'm not sure which more extensive anti malware suite might be better than the above.... perhaps someone else can suggest?

    Some friend

All the programmes he has taken off are not resource hungry, Avira is a far bettet AV programme than AVG and has a smaller footprint, MBAM & SAS you needed for malware.

What does your "friend" recommend for a malware scanner now?

I'm getting AVG off this, i've managed to get rid of the popups, and the PC's quieter, Still slightly lagging, so running a defrag again *crosses fingers*
