Definitely sounds like kitty has been under a car or similar.
Some posters have reported good result from bathing kitty in Fairy washing-up liquid. Not that puucat is going to thank you for it....0 -
I'm a dog owner, but lots of the cats in our road like to hang out under the cars. In this cold weather we're having, it's a good way for them to get nice and toasty-warm. They'll go under a car which has recently been driven, so that the engine and exhaust, etc. are still warm, and rub their whiskery little selves against the hot pipes.
Unless it is causing kitty problems and you see him/her scratching and picking at irritated skin, it shouldn't really be a problem. I'd be willing to bet that kitty stops doing it once the weather warms up.
The best thing to use for washing puss is a mild baby shampoo, like Johnson's No More Tears, in a very small quantity. Be aware, though, that washing and shampooing a pet too often can strip its fur of the natural oils that keep the coat waterproof and can lead to nasty skin dryness and irritation. Be prepared for a few scratches from enraged kitt as well!
Of course, if you are at all worried, please take the cat to the vets.
Hope this helps. x0 -
My white boy always sits under our cars when the engines are still warm especially at this time of year, so he often has black patches on him. If he were human he'd be the lad with string in his pocket and worms in a jar, I swear he rolls in it! I get the best result from a mild solution of head n shoulders shampoo (which is also recommended by a friend with white dogs to keep their coats white) ...no need to dunk mog in a bath of it, just use a sponge to rub it on/in and rinse it off on and he think he's being stroked...but then hes daft anyway

When one of my cats got covered in oil the vet told me the best stuff to get the oil out of the fur is vegetable oil, we had to get the oil out quickly before he ingested too much of it and the only vegetable oil we had was in the deep fat fryer. Poor mog smelled of chips for ages :rotfl:but it works really well.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Could also be anti vandal paint that stays on clothes forever - we had a neighbour paint it along the top of his wall and the cats kept going in and out with paint on there feet.2010 has got to be better than the last two years!! :rotfl:
Weight loss to date: 3 Stone & 5lbs!! Weight loss this week: 2 lbs !!:j0 -
One other thing that might help is the juice from fresh or tinned tomatoes. Works a treat on fox/deer poo on the dog...!0

my spaniel has a tendancy to sniff aound a wooden telegraph pole near our house..they are greased/creosoted at the bottom to resist doggy wee rotting them..ergo..spaniel ears have black stuff and greasy stuff on him!! does your furbaby rub against one for a scratch?TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0

Try Johnsons baby wipes - they seem to be really good at getting off all sorts of stuff - alternatively Johnsons baby lotion and cotton wool.
I wouldn't use any sort of washing up liquid as it will dry the skin out, possibly leading to other problems (a bit like dermatitis).0 -

this is my top tip for removing oil or tar from kitties!
you can use anything from baby oil to your best virgin olive oil! i used to pour some onto my hands the rub it into fur - then get some kitchen towel or rags and wipe off as much as i could - repeat until the fur looks clean. if you used cooking oil it wont matter too much if the cat then cleans itself but if the cat doesnt mind then a damp cloth with a drop of fairy or shampoo can be used to clean up further, but try to rinse off as much as you can. Unless you have a wierd cat like my sons who absolutely loves a bubble bath!!!0
