Joined first utility last year and went live on 1st november. The conditions of joining were that i supply a reading every month (which I have) and they bill me every month. I have not had a bill yet. I have rang 6 times and each time they say there is a slight problem and i should have my bill "any day now". I have kept all there emails. I sent nasty email on Monday and their reply was that I had not supplied a correct reading for my gas (i signed up for both gas and electricity) last november but everything will be rectified by March and they will bill me then. I am scared I havent got enought money to pay. Is there anything i can do?

We had a similar problem (but with a different enery supplier)...we recieved our fitst electricity bill 4 months after joining and now (nearly 7 months), we are still waiting on our first gas bill. We phoned several times and finally they agreed that we could pay an amount by card every month until the actual bill arrived (for an estimated amount based on the house size and how many people living here I think), and so we are now paying a guesstimate monthly - so that when a bill does arrive there will be no major shocks.
Given that it's their mistake though I would expect that if a hugh bill does arrive, you can negotiate to pay it off over time. But in the mean time, if you are not allowed to pay an amount by card until a bill arrives, put away a bit every month, so you don't spend the money you would expect to have paid on your bills on other things, and that way you'll have some set aside to cover the bill.
Keep calling them though to make sure that they are resolving the problem.0 -
Hi woggsywife - I think it's time you escalated this problem to an official compliant - Yes I know it's daft, but that's how the system is - Write a letter headed Complaint - By doing this your problem is listed into a time scaled procedure that you supplier has to adhere to
It's bit worrying that 1st U are having trouble with your Gas start reading, so when you do get a bill, check and check again, that the bill reflects your meter readings.
I'm afraid that 1st U are lumbering you with a chunk of home work - The only way you are going get an appx figure for the bill, is to apply the meter readings you have taken to the tariff you are on, and work it out yourself, month by month

woggyswife, Don't be afraid to speak to the Ombudsman.
http://www.energy-ombudsman.org.uk/
My partner had alot of trouble when moving out of her old place and sorting out the Electricity bill. She, like you, had been giving regular readings and had been getting regular bills which she had paid on time, everytime.
When it came time to close the account she got a £2k+ bill through!! She disputed this with them and they said it was actually £4k+. She explained than she had always paid what she had been told to pay and had been giving regular readings. She asked them to check the original reading (and to send it to her in writing) from when she moved in and compare it. They couldn't as they didn't have the details anymore. She got onto the Ombudsman, told them this, and threatened the Company with action and they eventually came back and said they couldn't prove the debt so it was cancelled.
She was very stressed throughout this time but had done everything that had been asked of her from the Energy Company over the previous 5 years+.
Remember, if you are in communications with them, always write down dates, times, names and what was said for your records. If you speak to the Energy Company again, and they say something different, then you can just say..."But on this date when I spoke to Eric, he told me..." and so on and so forth.I'M NOT AS THINK AS YOU DUMB I AM...

Yes, start putting aside money to pay for the fuel you are using! £100 a month should do it at this time of year.0
