Fascias and guttering - any recommendations?

Hi,
We need new fascias and guttering, just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for companies - specifically in the Merseyside area.

Also, any advice, hints about realistic quotes, length of time to do work etc would be appreciated.

We are looking to replace the current fascias with UPVC and replace all guttering. We live in a 1980s small three bed semi. I know without measurements, it's probably like asking how long's a piece if string, but any advice before I get quotes would be great.

I had fascias, soffits & guttering replaced on a 4 bed detached last Summer. The work took about 4 days in total. Cost just over £3k.

The guttering was seamless aluminum looks much better because there are no visible clips and much more robust than plastic - costs a bit more of course. The company was based in Ashton in Makerfield, Wigan (might not want to travel as far as Merseyside, depending where you live) and did an excellent job. Google for elite4 roofline.

Am other end of country to you but just as a guide for you... we had guttering, drainpipes, soffits with ventilation, fascias all ripped off and replaced with UPVC last week on our 3 bed semi. With scaffolding it cost £1300. We got three quotes and all were virtually identical price. Hope that helps a bit! it took 1 1/2 days to do.

Thanks for those replies - really useful. Will get ringing round for quotes.
Someone mentioned to me today that it might be best to steer clear of white gutters because of the way in which they look so dirty. I hadn't ever thought of this. Is this a problem with going for white? Any opinions about white versus black gutters?
  • I've been having a few quotes for my 3bed semi (its a hipped roof, so no high pine end) and the best I've had is £1300, including the small front bay.

For vented soffits, facsia, gutting and downpipes (golden oak and caramel).
This was by far the best quote I've had, some were crazy prices.
I really fancy the cast iron effect guttering and downpipes, they do look nice, but they pricey.

  • I'm in S Wales, and can see that you're in the NW, The company I had the price from was Classic upvc - I've not got the contact details with me, but I can if thats what you meant....
But I guessing you mean the cast iron effect, I've just seen them when browsing the net, there lots places which do it.
Here's one with some picture you can see the product,

it's got a 'substantial' look about it, more so than standard guttering etc.

My neighbour (the other half of my 3 bed semi) had a lot of work done on her house recently. She wanted fascias, soffits, guttering etc, she had quotes to have both houses done at the same time and it worked out much cheaper for both of us that way. I then just paid her my half. It looks nicer too as they are the same colour etc.

Black gutters or even brown available will look better for longer, but ALL pvcu will fade and get brittle as the oils within the vinyl deteriorate in sunlight. £1300 sound a bit cheap to me, but average seems to be around £45-50 per mtr. + downspouts etc: There are different qualities of plastic, to cheap quotes means cheap products. Plenty of roof-coaters and roof-line out there.

I've looked online and I've also been to a few upvc wholesalers - the materials are of negligiable cost - for the average semi its a few hundred pounds for good quality materials (for soffit, gutter and fascia).

The rest of the costs are labour charges and the dreaded scaffold. I had a quote for £4500 pounds from a company, but they use good quality scaffold!

£1300 was two guys on ladders and a tower scaffold of their own.

(Just to note - that I dont have existing fascia or soffit to remove so, just gutting, costs would be less than for those who need to have the old removed)
