Which new mobile
Hi all,
New to this forum and after some advice. I live in New Zealand and I'm heading back to the UK in a few weeks for a holiday. I'm going to buy a new mobile phone and I'm stuck! I can't decide between an Iphone and a sony ericsson w995? I need it to be unlocked? Anyone got any preferences on either phone? Are the Iphones from tesco unlocked to any network?
Cheers :j

o2 phones tend to be unlocked. Otherwise you can pay a mobile phone shop to do it or search on the net for an unlock code.0

I am fairly certain the tesco mobiles are locked to their own network. You should double check on tesco's website.
Asda's mobile phones are not locked.0 -
I have been using the W995 for about 6 months, fantastic phone. Does everything it says on the tin and does it excellently. That said I've just upgraded and best deal was to be had on the iphone, so I have one of those also. Again fantastic phone, and I can't decide between the two.
There's are the things I prefer in the W995
Much better camera
Better battery life
Proper bluetooth (Ie you can transfer files to any and all phones, not just connect to a bluetooth headset, which is all you're able to do with the iphones bluetooth).
That said, if they're unimportant to you, iphone all the way as the abundance of aps make it possible to do just about all you want/need to do with the phone.Sigless0 -
My understand is there are 2 types of 'unlocked' for the iPhone; Factory unlocked by Apple which is permanent or hacking/jailbreaking the lock put on my Apple or phone provider which I understand reverts in some situations and Apple claim is illegal.

Cheers for the replies, how much are the iphones in france? do they come unlocked? My budget is about £450 so I know I can get a W995 for much less but I'm just wondering that if I get one I'll always be wondering about an iphone! Arghhh!!! I think as a phone/camera the W995 is the best allrounder, but, the apps that come with the iphone make it quite tempting, but would I use them?? ha ha, I'm rubbish at making choices!!!0

I think the prices in france are fairly similar to england (happy to be corrected on that) but i assume what nsabournemouth was getting at was the fact that the iphones from france will be unlocked due to competition laws over there meaning you can buy it sim free and not tied to a particular network0 -
Ok for the best of both worlds ( and a much better phone than the iphone in my opinion) get the sony xperai x10.0
