    I used to have a 2000 1.2 Renault Clio, and at 70,000 miles-ish a full service (non-dealer) cost around £160

I had the car serviced at the dealers for £260 including MOT, Brake fluid change and coolant change. (supposedly my car doesn't have a cabin filter). But anyway, I have a few questions...again.

How do you know whether the brake fluid and coolant change was done properly? Apart from looking out for obvious leaks around the reservoir, what else?

Check the car stops when you brake and it doesnt overheat. Apart from that, you've no way of telling.

Same with any service, unless you watched them carry out the service, you never know for sure what has actually been done/changed.

You can get cheap testers for both brake and coolant fluids. Testing before and after servicing may give you some idea - though what you had in before the service may have been fine anyway.

A sure check is a change in colour.

Well, I checked before the service the brake fluid and coolant were grubby. Now they are definitely cleaner. I'm just curious of the tale-tell signs for an unbled system. So i guess: look out for over-heating, whether the car can stop and leaks around the hoses.
