Are IPhones at Tesco Locked?

Hi Guys,

I am at 3 at the moment, nearly at the end of my contract paying £12 pm, which serves my requirements. As yet I don't know if I can carry on without signing into a new contract.

However, I recently got myself an Ipod Touch when Apple had that 1 day discount and I'm love it. So I would like a Iphone, but have a few questions.

As far as I can see, Tesco are the cheapest for PAYG Iphone, but I might be wrong. Are these Iphones locked to Tesco network?

If so, is it easy to unlock them or get it unlocked?

Will it work on 3 network if I put my 3 sim card in it?

Or would I be switching to Tesco network, as I think I'm right in saying you get unlimited internet acsess? Or is there a better deal on the go that I haven't seen?

What is jailbrake and what is it about?

Can I use email on the Iphone for free, as I haven't used email on a mobile before?

Sorry for so many questions.:o

Cheers

Tesco iPhones are locked, and you can unlock after 12 months. You'd be best getting an O2 one, and paying the £15 to get it unlocked.
  • Or if you have a bit of tech savvy, you can unlock them yourself for free. But it does involve (as always) the possibility of turning it into a very expensive coaster if you get it wrong.

have I not read on here before that Tesco mobile Iphones will also work on O2 because they're the carrier that Tesco use?

My friend who did it last week for the latest firmware. It involves compiling your own firmware with a couple of patches applied. Not owning a Mac or an iPhone, I wasn't really paying that much attention at the time.

Bottom line is he can use his Vodafone SIM in an o2 handset.

I say Lee as you can unbrick it if it fails so it does not render it useless
