Please see the oxford dictionary meaning below:

bespoke
adjective Brit. (of goods) made to order

So how does this make Loxley more bespoke ????

Prentice house a much larger range with a number of upgrades so therefore can cover more of a market. They start with MFC units but you can change them to veneer maple / walnut / oak / character oak or even solid pine, they also offer a metal drawer box, veneer and solid boxes in numerous different materials. Therefore I beleive as Prentice offer you more options, they technically are the more bespoke company.

Hi NivlekDoow

Firstly - Welcome to the MSE forums, I hope you become an active member and enjoy the site.

Judging from your response I assume you have something to do with Prentice or a one of their dealers. The reason why I said Loxley is a more bespoke manufacturer than Prentice is quite simple.

I have visited both factories and effectively Prentice have 2 factories, there is the door producing factory and the workers there are craftsmen, no doubt about it, but their other factory is a mass carcase producing facility that makes batches of components/panels from chipboard. These components can be produced basically by anyone as the machines just need supervision and people to move things about.

On the other hand Loxley is a much smaller operation, they produce each component for every kitchen on a very individual basis, there is no chipboard to be seen and all the workers are time served cabinet makers.

I have also been to the Mereway factory who are one of the largest mass producers of kitchens in the country (nothing wrong with them) and the Prentice operation is much more like Mereway's than Loxley's.

Hopefully this explains the differences.

I've got a Prentice supplier coming round on Wednesday for a design/quote. The company will also be undertaking all the building works, so the complete package.

CK - I'll give you a call once the quote and design come back and I'll probably come into your place for a chat.

Hi Matt

No problem - good luck for Wednesday and give me a call when you want to come over just to make sure I haven't got an appointment or something. I'll make sure the coffee machine is working!

Thank you for your warm welcome,

I have also been to the Prentice workshops and I do understand what you are saying, but Prentice do not stock anything and all the units, be it mfc or veneer or solid pine are made to order and the material is bought in for the individuals kitchen, so in essence they are not a mass producer, they just offer their customers more variety but still on an individual basis.

They offer very good value for money at a very good quality, and basically in my experience if you design something they will do it or offer you guidance on the best ways to manufacture the special item, just check out the kensington on their website, you cannont tell me the staffordshire tressle and seating areas look mass produced. (unfortunately as a new memeber I cannot post any links)
• We have been looking for a quality kitchen and have found Loxley based on recommendation. Just trying to make the final decision. Loxley are more than the regular manufacturers but you do appear to get a quality product that is slightly different from the mainstream. We are looking at the Pure range.
