Prentice Kitchens

Does anybody or has anybody had experience of Prentice Furniture in particular their kitchens?

We're currently looking to replace and extend our current kitchen and I'm looking through the options.

There is a company near to us (Winchmore Designs) that will provide a full service i.e. building works, electrics, plumbing etc and the kitchens that they supply are Prentice, these look good, nice quality kitchens and they claim they are handmade/bespoke. If anybody has any good/bad reviews of them I would be most grateful

I am also looking at a quote for a handmade kitchen (Leveller, much appricated for your estimate) and I will also get a quote from Wickes, so I get any idea of all the price ranges.

Regards,

Matt

There seems to be a lot of information on here and various other sites about Wickes type kitchens, I've been in contact with leveller about a handmade kitchen so now I'm really looking at some info on the mid-range type kitchens.

My budget is set and once I've received my quote from the builders I'll know what I have available for the kitchen.

I fit hand-made solid timber kitchens (in-frame) from a company in Cardiff. Their prices are around £20k.

If this is the kind of budget you are looking at for your kitchen, PM me and i'll give you the details and mine if you like.....don't want to be accused of spamming ;-)

    cheers
  • Dear Matt,

I have a Prentice Kitchen, the quality is really good and it looks as good now as when it was installed.

    Hi Matt

I am assuming you want a traditional style 'door in frame' style kitchen. This is what Prentice does best, however we needed a 'door in frame' style manufacturer and looked at several suppliers. Our short list was Prentice and Edwin Loxley, we visited their factories etc. before making our final decision. We decided to go with Loxleys as we felt they were a smaller more bespoke joinery shop type manufacturer rather than Prentice as more of a nice door and frame maker and a standard MFC (Chipboard) carcase maker. Also with Prentice you have to pay extra for solid wood dovetail jointed drawer boxes.

With Loxleys they only do wooden drawer boxes and they also make their carcases from Birch veneer ply. This we feel makes them a better more bespoke manufacturer, and they fit in better with our own family kitchen design business.

Having said all that, this is only half the story to a quality kitchen. An equally important consideration is the quality of the kitchen design company, as you could have the best made kitchen in the world but if the designer isn't up to it then you might just as well go to Wickes and design it yourself.

    Hope this helps.

Please see the oxford dictionary meaning below:

    bespoke
adjective Brit. (of goods) made to order

So how does this make Loxley more bespoke ????

Prentice house a much larger range with a number of upgrades so therefore can cover more of a market. They start with MFC units but you can change them to veneer maple / walnut / oak / character oak or even solid pine, they also offer a metal drawer box, veneer and solid boxes in numerous different materials. Therefore I beleive as Prentice offer you more options, they technically are the more bespoke company.

At the end of the day, if a client needs a drawer or unit made to their exact dimensions and this can be made by the company then they are "Bespoke".If they say "the nearest size we can make is"........ then they are not bespoke.......Simple really.....They either ARE or are NOT bespoke, can't be both i'm afraid......

Ive seen far too many kitchen companies claiming to be "Bespoke" charging premiums for the service and yet can't make odd sized doors or units..

Prentice can make any size, and therefore are a bespoke manufacturer!
