Roaming: Vodafone Passport?

I live right beside the border with the Republic Of Ireland and thus a lot of my calls are to ROI numbers.

I know that O2 have a Ireland only bolt on, but the fact that you can use inclusive minutes when roaming in Ireland attracts me to Vodafone.

Are the best deals in a high street store or online?

There will still be the 75p connect charge, which may hurt quite a bit on short calls.

I think there are some roaming deals from O2 Ireland and the other Irish networks, some for all customers, some for contract only, so perhaps you could look into these as well.
  • Hi MariborKev,

I work for Vodafone and can offer some informal advice.

Vodafone Passport is available to all customers including Pay as You Talk.

You can buy a Pay as You Talk SIM for as little as £2 from the Vodafone Online Store at https://www.v-store.co.uk or by visiting your local Vodafone Store.

Alternatively, you can have this on a contract by visiting the same website.

As you're calling the ROI you may be interested in our International Call Saver (ICS), which is only available on contract at an extra £2.50 per month. On a normal price plan, calls to ROI are charged at 94 pence per minute, whereas with ICS you will only be charged 20 pence per minute. Calling ROI on ICS gives you a saving of 25%

You can have this on a new connection by calling 08080 480 480, https://www.v-store.co.uk or by visiting your local Vodafone store.

If you need any further information, let me know and I'll help as much as I can.

  • Probably your best bet is to get an Isle Of Man sim card - see Martin's recent article about Mobile Roaming: Holiday Calls for Less. There are several suppliers of these with different tariffs: Storytelecom, 0044,Geodessa, etc.You won't pay to receive calls in either country or throughout the EU, plus a number of other destinations.
