Completely new shower room / bathroom

Anyone used a company to completely remodel a bathroom?

1 company to strip the existing bathroom and install a new, re-tiled,
fully fitted small bathroom.
I have only found two possible companies. Dolphin and SpaceMaker.
Both are very expensive. Over £10,000.

  • The answer to your question is probably no if it costs over £10,000!! Get a plumber to look at it, i take it your replacing an already existing bathroom? Or are you needing new walls built?

    Danny, Thanks for the reply.
It's an existing bathroom but the walls need the
tiles removed and replaced. I will edit the original post
    to make this clearer.
Project managing myself is probably the best option.
But that means using a few different suppliers.

Just had my bathroom re-done. The plumber took out the old bath, installed a shower cubicle/Triton shower, tiled where necessary, new toilet/cistern and new washbasin.
About £2000 including electrics and skip. He made about labour £800 for a weeks work.

Edit. He removed the old tiles. Also had a quote for a new bathroom in what is now the smallest bedroom...same price £2000, and no skip necessary, tho electrics might be a bit extra.
  • Sounds like you only need a plumber and a tiler, go for small local tradesmen should keep the costs down, get as many quotes as possible, and make sure the plumbers installing your choice of shower, sink etc... not his! If possible search the internet for showers, sink and if you do buy off the internet, make sure ure measurements are correct!!

I used the BathStore “free” design service (read the small print)
and their list of recommended fitters, to obtain quotes.
The new bathroom I want needs substantial plumbing work.
My best estimate for the complete finished bathroom is £5000.

A google search for BathroomStore finds very negative reviews,
so I will post a review of my experience when the work is complete.

That's very daring of you if the reviews are so terrible??!?!^^^^^^^

We had a 'one man band' do ours recently, plastering, tiling, plumbing. Was excellent, clean and much better priced than a 'company'!
  • Thanks suisidevw.
How did you find your "one man band"?
How much was the total job?

The only thing I am doing with the "company" is buying
some product. The fitters are local workmen.
    By using BathStore's "recommended list",
    built on customer feedback,
I hope I am reducing the danger of a rogue trader.

So what's the negative feedback from Bathroomstore (is this same as bathstore?)

My bath, loo and toilet were from the bathstore, I got in the sale and haggled more and my man fitted them. I sourced everything myself.

The one man band was excellent, and provided us with references etc before who were all full of praise. Full price inc full stripping, tiling most of room, plumbing, fitting, plastering, ufheating etc was £1750. That's inc of all materials except for suite etc!
  • Yes. It should read BathStore.
I will edit the post with the incorrect spelling.
Thanks for the tip about haggling.

Myself and a plumber i know have just finished a complete bathroom refit for a customer for £1500. Removed old tiles, bathroom suite etc and fitted new suite (already purchased by the customer), tiled all the walls and the floor. That price included labour and all materials ie tile adhesive, grout. The customer that we did the job for had also got a quote from dolphin, and she said it was ridiculous too!
