Has anyone else had trouble using Halifax Secure online?

I've been using Halifax Secure for on line purchases for a while. Yesterday I attempted a substancial white good purchase (with a good deal for the price) from and online department store . As it was my first purchase with them, I followed the registration instructions and entered the details to purchase using my C/C. Much to my surprise Halifax Secure said it could not complete the purchase. I tried again with the same effect (I am definitely okay using my card as I always pay off the balance).
In the end, I phoned the company and placed the order - however, I believe I have been charged full price for the white goods instead of the online price with 40 pound off. All because Halifax Secure wouldn't complete. Over the phone, there was no problem making the transaction with the same card moments later.
I have a slightly unusual home address and when I registered, the website would not allow me to leave a line blank - therefore I was forced to add something before I could continue the registration/on-line purchase. Could it be that this meant my addresses did not match exactly that with Halifax Secure and that was the reason it didn't complete? Anyone know how I can check the details I registered with Halifax Secure?
I am annoyed if Very's bad website design has apparently cost me an extra 40 pounds - I can cancel the order, but will Halifax charge me for refunding the amount to my credit card?
Update - I just checked the current online price and my account details - established I had been charged full price - phoned customer services - online store actioned an immediate credit adjustment - when I get the goods I phone back confirming I want to keep them and I will receive a refund of the overpayment. So far, so good - but can anyone help me establish why I had a problem with Hal/Secure and how I might prevent it happening in future?

I have not had this problem, but i would have told them on the phone order that there was something wrong with the website, they probably would have done the discount still. You do have rights......but you still need common sense.0

I couldn't add my Bank account to the online service yesterday, this morning works fine so maybe a glitch on H'Fax systems?0
