Reclaiming PPI with The Woolwich

Hi, Hope you guys can help! My mum took a loan out about 9 years ago with The Woolwich which she has only just finished paying for now! She was told that she had to take PPI as this was the only way she could get the loan! After seeing Martin's appearance I explained to her that she was miss sold the loan, so she contacted The Woolwich to ask for a copy of the agreement at which point she was told that they 'can't find it' which sound crazy to me as I would have thought they would have had to keep it on file... at least until the loan had been repaid! More recently she has contacted a company who have said that they are willing to take her case on and wave the £50 deposit fee and that they will take £280 for every £1000 that they manage to claim back... however I don't really feel comfortable with this arrangement and would prefer to look in to it myself. So what I need to try and find out is who I need to contact in regards to reclaiming the PPI as The Woolwich no longer exist in the entity of a building society? And what can I do about the bank no longer having a copy of the loan agreement?

Hi there
I agree, your quite right to feel this way about these claiming companies, when this can be done all free with just the posting within the post office.
So is there a bank that actually replaced The Woolwich?
If so then maybe it would be them you would write to, but another way here is to contact the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) customer care/consumer dept and they may try to find out who to write to in this case, so give them a call and they should check this out for you, and maybe also write to them on your mum's behalf too on request.

I imagine a lot have had dealings with these, and may also post up with some useful info for you, but hopefully the FOS will also be able to help to, good luck please keep us posted.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Exactly what I've been trying to tell my mum... although I will be invoicing her for my labour... Nothing a shopping trip can't sort out, lol!
I think Barclays took over The Woolwich... I need to pay them a visit so will ask today and see what they say in branch! If not FOS seems a good way to go... will keep you posted and thanks for such a speed reply!0 -

That's right.;):D.
Yes do that with Barclays and take it from there is best, otherwise contact the FOS, who may also write to them on your mum's behalf too.
Good luck and your welcome, we look forward to hearing from you.

Barclays should now deal with the complaint I think.
