Contract cancellation?

Hi all, I hope you're all having fun this wonderful evening.
I was hoping someone may know the answer to this...
I applied for a mobile contract with Three, however after not hearing anything I phoned them. They said that there had been a problem with their website and that I should apply again. I did this, few days later, nothing- so I called them and was given the same answer - apply again.
I got fed up, and applied to o2 who were offering a similar deal - but not quite as good. They were fantastic and my phone was with me the next day. I have used this phone and it's all good.
Today, I received an e mail from Three to say that my order had been successful and my new phone was on its way!
I called three to cancel, they asked me why so I told them the tale. They apologised and offered me a deal that's hard to refuse for the same price as the o2 contract.
So, my question is- is there anyway to cancel an o2 contact even though I have used the phone for 2 days? I am still within the 14 day cancellation period, but my view is that as I have used the phone, I am unable to do this.
I did call o2 and they seemed unsure and put me through to another department who had me on hold for a long time, so I gave up.
Anyway, that's where I am at. Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

From the O2 website:
"How do I return or exchange my phone? If you are not entirely satisfied with your purchase, you may return it to us within 14 days from the date of receipt to obtain a full refund or exchange. If you have used the SIM card, you will still have to pay for the pro-rated line rental amount and any charges outside of your allocated allowance.
Please contact Customer Services and they will advise you on how to process your return or exchange."0
