does anyone use this int simm card - if so do you also have loads of trouble making a call, disconnects etc etc. I even have one phone number in the UK I have never been able to call. It rings okay a number of times but then you get the message about trying again later. In the end I just use the hotel phone & get through first time.
last effort to sort the problem before I chuck simm card into bin.

I have not had problems like that. I've used it with callthrough numbers (UK 08xx numbers are cheaper tariff than mobiles) and different callback arrangements from 3 other companies, and there are some call dropping issues that occurred a couple of days ago, but it seemed to be with the one callback operator, as some callbacks never came at all. Used on its own, no problem.

If you are calling a system with call-queueing, I've found that some networks see this as busy and cannot ring it; perhaps this is what is happening for you from this SIM as well?

For use from a landline, as you mention, a calling card or callback service may have cheaper tariffs anyway - callback from about 2p a minute between landlines.

Over the last two weeks I have not been able to make a single call without trying at least 3 or 4 times in each case. As you say this is a call back service but often it does not call back and most of the time I gave up and used a friends mobile instead. This was from France, Belgium , Germany & Hungary to landlines in the UK and a few landlines also in the above countries.
As mentioned I was never able to call one particular landline in the UK, so used hotel landline or friends mobile.
