Vodafone PAYG Mobile Broadband - have they changed the terms?

I had a contract mobile broadband dongle with Vodafone that was coming to an end at the beginning of February so - as suggested by someone on this forum - I asked Vodafone if I could have it as a PAYG dongle and they said yes. I phoned AND emailed about this and on both occasions they said yes it could be PAYG.
I phoned today about it and apparently I was misinformed on both occasions and they can't do this.
I then thought I might buy a new PAYG dongle and seeing as Vodafone always advertise that their credit lasts for 180 days not just 30 days I thought I'd stick with them, even though I am annoyed about the incorrect information that they'd originally given me.
It seems though that the credit only lasts 30 days. Have they changed their terms and conditions?
Also, Amazon are still advertising a Vodafone PAYG broadband dongle (through Amazon themselves NOT a marketplace seller) where the credit doesn't expire at all. If you buy this, then subsequently find that the credit DOES expire, what are the legal grounds? Seems to me that if the credit DOES expire, then they are mis-selling?

I've posted this previously but will re-post:
I've pulled this off Voodofones' own forum as it clarifies this:
Hi all,
I'd like to clear up the confusion, as I can see there's a lot of potential for mistakes to be made here.
There are two seperate propositions if you will, which have different modems, different price-plans, and different terms.
Anyone who purchased a Top Up and Go Modem prior to the 26th of December, will have the original £15 for 1GB plan, non-expiring credit. Some third-party retailers will still be stocking these part way into January.
The new PAYS Modems have an "R" on their sticker, so you can tell the difference, and give you £15 for 3GB, but credit expires after 30 days. These are now the only Top Up and Go Modems available direct from Vodafone as of the 26th of December 2009.

So how would I tell if the dongle from Amazon has an R on it?
And if Amazon are selling it as credit that won't expire, does that mean it won't?
If they've made a mistake, does anyone knkow the position?0 -

If its on the old contract, its on those T&Cs so won't expire.0 -
