    It kind of is, though. Otherwise you would just hand in your notice and move down south. You are, effectively, considering using the Right to Buy scheme as a way of raising a deposit to buy another property. (Please don't think I am being critical - I'm sure I would be thinking the same thing if I was in your position.)

    Why don't you try to do a council exchange? There is a website, I'm not sure of the name though, but your local council could advise you of website name. That would make a whole load of sense I would have thought
  • That was my initial thought, although the chances of finding someone who wants to move 500miles north from the place i want to go to is very remote. However this would be the ideal.
