Rubytuesday, 1700 calories ,that seems a hell of a lot of calories, something in the back of my brain is telling me that for a woman it should be 1200.
Well whatever its is lol, reading all the posts I know I have to have more calories.

1940 calories per day is recommended for weight maintenance by the UK Dept of Health. Of course this varies from person to person. 1200 is the absolute minimum you should be consuming.

Could I just say to look again at the vitamins/supplemts because if you are eating well then some are just superfluous such as viatamin C which is excreted in your wee. I also agree with another poster who suggested keeping a food diary. yes it is boring but well worth it and allows you to see what you are eating over the week and to tweak it as you want. I noticed that you eat 2 bananas which are quite binding and avocados which are one of the essential fats but also quite calorific.

Good luck tho`- you seem to have a lot of good advice on here
  • Quite prepared for not everyone to agree with what I was saying, but from a losing weight point of view, yes everyone is different but everyone CAN do it, it is just harder for some than others. The ones that aren't are just probably not doing as much of the right things that they need to for it to work for them.

I am quite prepared to include myself in that too. Doing a hardcore weights workout 3 times a week along with 20 mins cardio each time, walking up to 13 miles a week, and playing netball along with eating in the region of 1500 cals of good quality food a day is my baseline, so I have to do more than that to lose weight. But I don't make excuses for why I'm not losing the pounds, I can admit that I'm not doing enough. That's all I was saying, people need to take responsibility and be accountable for not losing weight, rather than blaming genes or metabolism etc.

    Anyway, just my opinion.

ciderwithrosie, I dont know a lot about diets TBH, but with the fatty areas that I have, I assumed it was something to do with my fat intake, fat on fat, as taking fat in is not given my existing fat a chance to melt ifykwim, could be carbs, but am trying to think I am eating an excessive amount of carbs, but I dont think so.[/QUOTE]

Sorry but I cannot see where you think you're eating too much fat thereby storing fat, you say you don't eat meat, fish, eggs, only a little cheese and the odd avocado, no butter. Fat does not get stored as fat on the body but carbs do get converted to fat if we don't burn them all off (which most people don't on a daily basis), and you eat.... potatoes, pasta, rice, pulses, fruit, bread, sugar in tea and veg (although most veg are fairly low in carbs) and not a lot else. You cannot burn fat off whilst you are eating mainly carbs as these are giving you your day's energy plus surplus to store so your body doesn't need to draw on your fat reserves for energy. as mentioned by other posters, there's a lack of protein as well. Protein builds lean muscle tissue which burns more calories where as fat on the body doesn't. However, fat gives you vital nutrients which help regulate and support your body's hormones, cell reproduction and almost every other bodily function. Both protein and fat keep you feeling full for longer as they have little impact on insulin production, thus avoiding high and low blood sugar swings. Carbs have little nutritional value and we can happily and healthily live on a very small amount in our diet (ie fresh veg) as long as it's balanced with protein and fat. People are starting to realise that since the low-fat revolution we have become fatter and unhealthier and that the present globally accepted nutritional guidelines might actually be wrong.

sorry for the massive long paragraph - I never know where to start a new one!

Good luck getting your eating back on track, it sounds like you have undereaten for a while so it might take a while to re-learn good eating habits.

I'm with closed, it's really easy to underestimate our calorie consumption. The body can only go into survival mode for so long - so if you really were only eating 800 calories per day you would be heading on a slippery downward slope of weightloss.

I watched a documentary about weightloss some time ago and a lady who was overweight swore she hardly ate anything, then when they did all the proper tests and everything she ate was recorded it turns out her intake of fruit was doubling the calories she felt she was getting through on a daily basis!

As for the exercise - sit ups, crunches and stretches are not fat burning exercises - you need to get your heart rate with aerobic/cardio exercise - walking, swimming etc. if you don't to do treadmill stuff or biking or classes. Sit ups will strengthen the muscles in the stomach area but won't do anything with the fat that sits on top of them.

I suggest you keep a very honest food diary, including every little scrape of butter to see if you really are eating only 800 a day.

They used to have a really goodcaloriecounter on the maximuscle website, just tried to look for it to get u the link so u can see how much you are actually consuming but I cant find it sorry :(

There are some meal plans on there website so you can see what sort of foods you should be eatting to make up 'x' amount of calories. (Just to give you ideas) obviously ignore the supplements included as you don't use these.

If you can't face toast in the morning, how about some low fat yogurt with fresh fruit and / or muesli/crunchy oat cereal on top?
