Why am I not losing weight?

Wow! All excellent advice, and all singing from the same hymn sheet, obviously you all know what your talking about, and I really need to take note.
Poppy, I am having my cuppa tea before I start getting ready for work, and got a slice out put in the toaster, but couldnt face it, but now reading your post, I am going to stick it in, I really dont fancy it, but will force myself.
Magpye, I know I should really focus on the right foods, like I mentioned above, I do make soups, I love mixed beans, I could eat them all day lol, but I should start eating properly.
thor, I know 10 stones is not that heavy for my height, but its going on the wrong places, I seem to have an extended belly, albiet it a tad flabby, and never seems to go down, my hips are about 3 inches bigger also, and my thighs are getting heavier, but every other part is quite slim, ie arms, legs, face neck, so am trying to excercise and concentrate on these areas.
vikki, After reading the above posts I am agreeing with you all, as looking back some days I am eating much less than 800, and yet even though I am not running etc, I am on the go all the time, upand down ladders, rolling walls, sanding etc, I know I work up a good old sweat doing that, I have to buy a bigger pair of overalls the other week.
bizywizy, I take my hat off to you losing all that weight, well done, and yes, I need to kick start my metabolisim, I need to eat something in the morning.
I do knock up batches of veg chilli, curry soaps, and I love them, so I know I get a decent meal in the evening, that I can face, its the morning I cant.
Bagerlady I think you have the nail on the head, protein, I am not geting enough or hardly any, I meant to mention that I do take suppliments also, calcium/Vit d, iron, multi etc, and I have used that drink you mentioned above, when I had more time, I used to knock it up with a banana and take that to work, it tastes awful on its own with water or even milk, but adding a bit of fruit makes it taste a lot better.
I dont eat a lot of eggs, I do eat more cheese though, and I do drink water mainly when I am at home, mainly at the weekends.
Am off to work in a minute, and I will be painting away thinking of everything you have all said, the downside of decorating, or for me anyway, is because I work on my own, I end up doing a lot of thinking, which sometimes is not a good thing lol.
Many thank to you for taking the time to answer me.:)0 -
Not so sure I like the sound of Curry Soaps:) I go to a diet clinic at the Homeopathic Hospital as I have put on a lot of weight due to medication. The consultant told me they would not advise less than 1700 calories a day for weight loss. I keep a food diary and that has been very helpful. Here dead we lie because we did not choose

Have you considered you may be having too many carbs and not a lot else? From your description of where your fat is accumulating it seems to be an obvious culprit. Are you a veggie for ethical or health reasons?

I would say it is definitely because you aren't eating enough, why would your body want to let go of fat if it thinks it needs to keep it to survive cos there is no fuel coming in to keep it going? Hopefully you're not eating hardly anything on purpose to try and lose weight as that is the classic unhealthy and unsuccessful way that a lot of ladies try and do it.
There are no magic cures or quick fixed to successfully lose weight. Eat a balanced diet of adequate but lowish calories and do some exercise, end of, full stop! Pills, meal replacements, fad diets are not a healthy and ultimately successful way of losing a few or lots of pounds.
As soon as people realise this and stop making excuses for why they can't lose weight then the world will be a healthier place. Sorry, will get off the soap box now, rubbish pointless diets are one of my pet hates in case you hadn't noticed!Little lady arrived 13/12/110 -
Fruit - although good too much isn't good, it is full of (natural sugar).
Bread - You need carbs otherwise you can't burn off calories
Portions - it really is suprising how big our "small" portions are. spend 1 week weighing and see exactly how much.
Keep a food diary - again this is often a suprise to people. You have to be honest though
Age - to be fair after 30 - everyone always gains. All my friends wish they weighed the same as when 20 - It seems almost impossible. Don't get fixated on a number!
I used to work for a well know weight loss company, I've seen it all!0 -

That's a little harsh, isn't it? You're sort of conflating weight and health, which doesn't necessarily follow. People who have yo-yo dieted tend not to be making excuses for their weight - they tend to have screwed up their internal rhythms so badly they can't follow their own body's cues anymore. Diet culture has a hell of a lot to answer for IMO."All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.
I'm intolerant of wheat, citrus, grapes, grape products and dried vine fruits, tomato, and beetroot, and I am also somewhat caffeine sensitive.0 -
It sounds to me like you are not eating enough calories 800 calories is not enough for day to day functioning, the minimum you should eat is 1000, probably even more than that as you are going to be very active in your job. Any calorie allowance should take into effect what kind of lifestyle you lead (active, non active etc).
Maybe you could try using something like http://www.foodfocus.co.uk it will tell you exactly how many calories you should be eating to lose weight from the information you give it in relation to your lifestyle etc. It will require a little bit of effort inputting what you've eaten but it may be beneficial to you to see what kind of things you could eat under your calorie allowance.
Plus its free
I agree that your comment was a little uncalled for yummymummy79 - everyone is different and what works for one may not always work for another. I think the OP isn't necessarily following a fad diet but trying to work her diet around being vegan which obviously rules some stuff out for them. One day Rodney we'll be millionaires£2020 in 2020 - Running Total £170 -
Agree with the majority here. Definatly not eatting enough...breakfast is the most important meal of the day cos it kick starts your metabolism, which needs kick starting as soon as in order for your body to burn the correct fuels. Even if you just have a piece of fruit or something light.
You need to include some fat in your diet, not too much but fat is an essential part of a good diet. Try things like nuts, sunflower seeds for snacks.
Eatting the right amount of different food groups results in weight loss or maintaining a healthy weight.
Not eatting enough results in your body compensating by storing the food you eat for longer.
So GET EATTING! lol0 -
Rubytuesday, 1700 calories ,that seems a hell of a lot of calories, something in the back of my brain is telling me that for a woman it should be 1200.
Well whatever its is lol, reading all the posts I know I have to have more calories.
ciderwithrosie, I dont know a lot about diets TBH, but with the fatty areas that I have, I assumed it was something to do with my fat intake, fat on fat, as taking fat in is not given my existing fat a chance to melt ifykwim, could be carbs, but am trying to think I am eating an excessive amount of carbs, but I dont think so.
Re the veggie situation, its quite a longish and weirdish story how I became a veggie but I dont want to bore you all with it,( unless you insist of course)but I got turned off meat, nothing sick or anything like that.
Yummymummy. No, I am not eating less or starving myself on purpose, but I have never eaten breakfast, sometimes no lunch or like I mentioned a banana or avocado, or some salad.
I used to pig out at weekends, chocolates, biscuits etc, but the last 2 years I havent touched chocolate, or anything with chocolate in it, therefor i dont eat biscuits or cakes or anything like that now, the last time I had a bit of cake was a Xmas, and it was jamaican ginger cake.
I am still doing my excersises, but am losing the will to live here, as nothing is working.
Meames, I know exactly what you mean, years ago if my dress was a little tight on me and I was going somewhere special on the saturday, then I would cut back a little from the sunday previous to the saturday, and I would lose just enough to make my dress fit comfortable, but as I have got older, plus your metabolism slows down anyway, I am really strugglng.
If I could just get my tummy down a bit, as nothing is buttoning up.:(
Fairyshazza, Thankyou for the link, i will have a look in after I post this, I would be interested in knowing exactly how many calories I am eating, I never weigh anything anyway lol.

Hi Bills, I had already posted my answer before I saw yours.:)
I dont know if this affect most people, but I do find that when I do eat in the morning, more so at a weekend when I am not working, I could have some toast and a boiled egg, at say 9.30, by 10.30 I am starving again, it seems to make more hungry and I am eating all weekend then.
I'm off tomorrow, finished my job, so I will have breakfast but will have to be at least 9.00, as cant face anything before that, and I am going to eat little and often through the day, and of course the right foods, I will give that a go, and see if my swollen/bloated looking tummy starts going down.:)0
