A DVD burner is a doddle to fit, as an experienced ICT Technician and now network manager, I can say with confidence that girls can successfully fit DVD Drives without terminally damaging a pc. Although saying that, I'm more that willing to help the "Absolutely complete bonkers over-the-top MoneySaver" to put the bits in the correct holes should she require any assistance.

I have the NEC drive linked to above. It is a brilliant drive. No coaters at all.
A million times better than the SONY drive that ir replaced.0 -

the NEC drives have become pretty highly rated in the last year but I have always bought Pioneer drives the 111D's are fantastic drives and I would highly recomend them.
The reliabilty of the drive isnt the only factor to reliable burning of DVD's you also need to use good quality media.
As for fitting in a dimension 3100 you remove the side of the pc move the slider up that releases the front panel disconnect thepower cable, IDE cable and the cd audio cable. some of the dells use a quick release that is activated by the same leaver before otherwise remove the screws holing the drive in the case and slide the drive out the front of the PC. if it is a quick release remove the screews fromt he sides of the drive and put them in the same holes on your new drive and slide it in to the hole left by the old drive if it need screwing in screw it in and replace the cables.
the whole thing should take you maybe 5 minutes at the most if you have any problems it isnt that dificult jut remember where everything came from.0 -

Our dell on haas a CDR burner and would like to change it to a DVD burner, and it seems that the internal ones are cheaper than external (unless someone can find me a cheap one)
I have found this one and wondered if:
1) it will fit in my dell demesnsion 3100?
2) Is it had to fit or will I be giving dad a ring?
3) is it any good?
Any advice would be fantastico :j
Thank you
NEC, had mine couple of years use it 6 times a week and it still works as the day i first used it.0
