( i have just been using my mobile phone since moving in)

do i need to get a telephone line put in to get the non cable deals??

Yes - the only bb you can get without a phoneline is Virgin.

Have you tried VM retentions? If you say you want to cancel they might offer you a discount for staying.

Otherwise, you'll need to get a BT line installed. You'll have to take up a 12 month contract for the line rental - but you can take broadband from someone else straight away.

It'll cost about £125 from BT.

You can also get a BT line installed if you go to Plusnet - but you'll have to take their broadband too (it's a good choice if you can't get Be/O2). Plusnet charge about £75 I think for new lines.
  • many thanks, once you have a landline with bt do you always have to pay them line rental or when you move to someone else do you stop paying bt their line rental?

    hope this makes sense!

You have to keep paying line rental. No payment = no line = no ADSL.
  • If you get a BT broadband contract you can actually get the line installation for free, once the contracts over you could move to get cheaper line rental.

This might be a silly question but have you ever checked your phone line? It might be worth buying a cheap phone and just seeing if you can get a dial tone - I moved into a house a few years ago and my housemates were convinced that their landline didn't work but when I tested it it was fine!
  • Or use a dongle is the only other option. Personally id be pleased to pay £18. Currently i have to pay line rental £11 a month and broadband on top.
