Easy jet and checking in and boarding

Hi there Please can somebody explain the following. We normally fly with Thomson so when we go to check in we get our seat numbers allocated and then when we board we know where we are sitting. The last time I flew on Easyjet and there was a bus to the plane (Venice), they cordoned off the front section of the bus for speedy boarders so that they could let them off the bus first.
