Affordable wedding dresses in Staffordshire/West Midlands?

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone else has bought a wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, also something for the mother of the bride as she is walking me down the aisle! I'm looking for something under £700 for the wedding dress.
I've heard really bad things about Bertetex Bride (there's one in Wolverhampton) so don't really want to go there!
Any good advice of places with good customer service too would be helpful. Any places to AVOID would be appreciated too!
Am getting married Sunday 19th September 2010 so time is getting on a bit now, am going to the National Wedding Show in March but I reckon it will be too busy to have a good look at dresses there, and probably expensive.

Thanks :-)

I would go prepared to try on - take some lippy, a hairbrush & some heeled shoes in your bag if you can. You never know, you may be able to try & buy.

I know that near me there is a couture shop (don't panic at the word couture) she makes her own dresses and they are all a reasonable price https://www.sheilamaycouture.co.uk (Sheila May is open at weekends only). There is another shop that I know in Kings Norton (just up from the station) called Gorgeous and they sell lovely wedding dresses in there.

Have a look in Debenhams & Monsoon..start looking in March because this is when the shops clear out their old stock ready for the new which they will order in Harrogate at the huge trade only fair. I hate to say it but the Wedding Fair at the NEC will be like a cattle market and it is very difficult to try on dresses and get a real idea of what they look like on.

As for mother of the bride, it may sound crazy but if she buys Woman & Home magazine this month then inside there is a 20% off voucher for Fenn Wright & Manson (nearest place that I can think of is Selfridges in Birmingham). They have some gorgeous clothes and if slight adjustments need to be made they send them off to have them altered, nothing is too much trouble. Bereinas in the Great Western Arcade in Birmingham also sells gorgeous clothes that can be worn by Mum (actually I got my wedding dress from there - I wanted a dress that I could wear several times rather than just once) and can remember that their customer service was fab and they took time and they made me feel special.
  • I know it's a bit of a drive for you, but worth the effort :http://www.bridalbasement.co.uk/
My daughter bought her dress there, and paid £299 for a dress that retails £950...and they are really nice people, no rushing, you can try on as many dresses as you like. They have a massive stock, which covers 3 floors - best of luck!

Wedding parlour in Bridgtown, Cannock- the best of all the bridal shops I went to (and there was a lot!). Lovely service and affordable.
Try Boundary Mill in Walsall for MOB dress- my mum had her CC stuff from there about this time last year (after the winter sale finished and the spring/summer stuff was in) and saved a lot on the same outfit she looked at in House of Fraser.
  • Thanks guys - I am actually getting married in Cannock too so not far at all!

We looked at there. Nice place but wouldn't take us cos of numbers. Got married at the rgister office then went to Rodbaston Hall. If you need any advice, let me know!
  • We looked at Rodbaston Hall! It was really nice. We are only having a small wedding, 100 people so quite good for us!
  • I got my dress, my tiara, veil and BM's dresses from Cindy Belle in Brownhills, she's great, really friendly and very reasonable.

She's just moved to a new shop.
