Installing an oven

I am installing a new oven in my house. The electric hob is already hooked up to the wall plate.
Can I hook the oven up to the same wall plate or will I need a separate connection?
Thanks

when you say wall plate are you refering to a proper wall plate with a proper cooker switch or just a normal 13amp socket?
if is a normal socket which would be wrong anyway then no, but if is a proper wall plate with correct cooker grade wire then yes.0 -
Yeah, proper wall plate behind the hob with a separate switch on the wall above the work top.
Thanks0 -
then yes should now not be an issue as long as switch is rated as 45amp.
make sure main house breaker is off and that when you install you twist the wire ends up with pliers and that all of the stripped wire is fully inserted into the holes and really tighten up the screws put all back then juice back on.0 -
Excellent! Thanks for your help.0

be aware that by installing your oven you have probably just invalidated your home insurance.
all cookers/ovens that do not have a standard 13amp plug must now be installed by a competent person, whether gas or electric. a competent person does not mean someone who thinks they know or has read abook etc, but someone who has a recognised qualification.0 -

You are incorrect.
Also what if he installed this oven before 2000?0 -
Well said Ionkontrol. 'Competent Person' also includes 'competence by experience'.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

mmm, no it doesnt. and anyway, if the op was competent by experience he wouldnt be coming onto a forum such as this to ask for advice! i would say that makes him incompetent to do the job safely. im not here to argue it, but i know the law in this area well as my job exposes me to it daily, just hope you are not one of the people i ever have to deal with when it all goes wrong.0

Not correct on several different points.
Any wiring depends on the consumer unit, the type of breaker, size of cable from the unit, what the load of the hob is and what the load of the oven will be. Not the size of the switch.
Any oven over 2kw should now have it's own dedicated radial even if the above is ok.0 -

Either he's Doctor Who, or it's either been working for 10 years or his house burnt down long ago.0
