It was my mom who suggested that. Its not a smokescreen to pay for my shopping or my holidays (we can more than afforded these) You might think its a nice toaster but does it match there kitchen, do they want/need it? I would rather have nothing rather than an unwanted present
  • I think it's a nice touch. And, actually I will be a little frustrated if I get a toaster. For those that attend the day and evening do it will have cost minimum of £50 a head (actually a bit more). At everyone's wedding I have attended I have either given a £50 gift or £50 vouchers/money, whatever they have asked for. A poem is a lot nicer than saying give us money. I'll be asking for vouchers as I can't afford a honeymoon otherwise!
  • Sounds rude if you do understand it and if you don't it looks like you are on a mission to save the trees!!! Sorry, I think sometimes just explaining how it is is the least tacky way of doing it, we're not bothering on asking for anything though.

We have had similar thoughts - I'm currently waiting for DF to get home from site to agree the following to go with our invites:

As we have a home filled with everything we need, we do not have a gift list. However, if you insist, Thomas Cook or Debenhams vouchers would be very gratefully received.

    Hope that helps!

I like this idea does sound better than no boxed gifts
