No boxed gifts?

We have a poem in our invites that basically says we already have a home with toasters and kettles and all that jazz.
And that all we require is your presence, but if you must give something please could it be cash to put towards blah blah blah.
Says it more much gracefully than I can, if you like I can dig it out.
Appreciate it's not to everyone's tastes but you know your guests better than anyone on here.0 -
It is rude to put the request onto the invitations themselves - saying no boxed gifts is vague, if you have a gift list then send it with the invitation but it shouldnt be on the invitation. If you want vouchers for a honeymoon then put something along the lines of the wording that Floss has mentioned on this thread.
People will sometimes put things into boxes if they are breakage such as glass so I guess it depends on your definition of a boxed gift.0 -

We're printing a slip with other "Important Information" for the guests advice re booking their hotel ASAP as there's a big local event that night, instructions re transport from wedding venue to reception which is already arranged etc so the note about gifts is on that.0 -
I think that putting no boxed gifts required is a clear indication that you don't need anything that you would buy in a box.
If your guests are going to think it means you can give them any gift, just don't bring it in a box.... well you need smarter guests

To be fair to the OP, I think this term used to be fashionable when people stopped having traditional gift lists. But I do think it sounds a little rude these days. Am surprised that someone else is using it, it sounds very formal to me, a term that people with lots of money and guests with equally lots of money would use. xI have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

No alot of people do it nowadays! You can set up a fund online where people can donate, if you do a google search for it:
senduspacking .com
and wishing well.

We are getting married in truks and caicos and have a flew blown wedding ( well blessing) when we come home. We will be asking for money instead of gifts i have asked my friends and they said its fine. I have also been to a lot of weddings in the uk and usa who have asked for money. We are going to put this
We’ve been together for a few years now,
and have a lovely home,
There aren’t too many things
that we don’t already own,
So if your thoughts were on a gift,
your presence will suffice,
But if you really feel the need,
then money would be nice,
We’ll put it all together,
And buy something that’s best,
As a reminder of our day,
And our wonderful guests0 -

why do weddings turn everyone into bloody poets?!
I'd not believe a word of it. Sounds like a smokescreen to paying for your groceries (or even your holiday!). You'd get a nice toaster from me. Or maybe a book of awful poetry (you seem to like it).
I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

I have no mention of gifts on the invites, but on the important information sheet we've done, (listing hotels, timings, taxi etc) I have added that we do not have a wedding list but have a just giving page or we are saving up for a honeymoon to be taken at a later date.:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0
