when you claim they ask what date you want to claim from. if they were late processing or paying they would still pay you from the date you want to claim from unless you dont qualify for the benefit from that date for some reason. so saying they dont back date is incorrect.

Backdating is only allowed if the claimant has good cause to not have claimed earlier, as well as fulfilling the JSA criteria. hibbi is correct, more often than not backdating claims are not granted.

yeah i guess that is right. i was thinking more along the lines of when they are late paying or processing the claim.

A late payment or delay in processing would not lead to a backdating claim. The claim cannot even start to be processed until the claim is made!

you misunderstand me. what i mean is if for example they take 6 weeks to process your claim. when you sign at the end of that 6 weeks you would not just get the normal 2 weeks money you are signing for. you would also get the previous 4 weeks that you have signed for but not been paid for yet due to them being late processing. personally i have never known them to be that late and i live in an area that has high unemployment. the last time i had to claim and was not paid when i should have been i just phoned them and they organised a counter payment for me.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: Sorry, your post had to be deleted as we had a couple of emails about it and site policy is to err on the side of caution (please see this rule). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com
• Whenever i have claimed JSA i have only ever got backdated pay once, you need to have a very good reason for them to pay you backpay. As to getting paid from your initial Jobcentre interview it just depends how quick they process your claim, there is usually a sign in my Jobcentre saying how long but you do get your money eventually all in one hit.
