How long does it take for JSA to be paid?

I made a claim yesterday and she said I can back date it to 16th Jan. I've got an interview at the jobcentre tomorrow. Does anyone know when I'm likely to be paid (that's saying the claim is successful)? It's been a very long time since I've claimed that kind of benefit and it's all changed now!

From one to three weeks after you hand the completed forms to them. Usually.
  • Hi Colliefrog

I have just gone over to JSA, it has been just over 3 weeks since i made a claim and i still haven't been paid depite having signed on as well.

Maybe if you ask when you have you interview you may get some better idea.

when you have your interview you are likely to be given a sign on time/day. you are meant to be paid within 3 working days after that. if you havent been paid by then(which often happens) i would call them and say you havent been paid and is it possible to organise a counter payment. if they say yes which they should do you will then be told to go to your jobcentre at a certain time to collect a giro which will be cashable immediately at a nominated post office. you will probably need some sort of id for the jobcentre and/or the post office.

My claim was authorised on the 9th of Feb, I went to sign on tuesday and got my JSA today only £44 though, as they dont pay the first 3 days. As stated before after you've been to sign on you should receive your payment within 3 days. If there gonna backdate your claim, wouldn't it be worth you asking for a giro check to made up? As being without money for so long, worth a try maybe.

In 9 out of 10 cases they dont allow the backdating so don't hold your breath for them to pay that. it can take up to 11 working days for your claim to be processed

I think you mean you may be entitled to benefit 3 days after your date of claim as the first 3 days are waiting days. When you are paid depends on if the BDC needs any futher information before they can process your claim or how much of a backload they have.

when you claim they ask what date you want to claim from. if they were late processing or paying they would still pay you from the date you want to claim from unless you dont qualify for the benefit from that date for some reason. so saying they dont back date is incorrect.

i said what i said because payments are usually made within 3 working days of signing on. if you sign on a monday you should have it in your account by thursday, if you sign on tuesday it should be in by friday, if you sign wednesday it should be in by the following monday, if you sign thursday it should be in by the following tuesday and if you sign friday it should be in by the following wednesday.
they will only need more info from you if you havent filled in the form properly and provided all required info with it.
ps it does depend when your first signing day is in relation to the first day of your claim to what you get paid. it is unlikely to time perfectly for you to get 2 weeks money and of course you dont get paid for the first 3 days anyway.
