simlocked mobile,,which network???

A mate has lost his phone and while waiting for the insurance to replace it,his brother has given him an old nokia 3510i to be going on with.I gave him a spare O2 genie sim but the phone won't take it.His brother cannot remember what network it is on because it's been in his cupboard for so long and he has had litterally dozens of phones since this one.Is there a way to find out the network it is locked to (other than trying loads of different sims) so we can unlock it remotely using a web service??

is there any branding on the phone?
like orange wap icons on the menu, if so its on orange
or if it says t-zones on wap icons its on t-mobile

No there's no branding on the outer of the phone and we can't get to any menus, as the two sims we have tried are obviously not the right ones.All we get is "phone restricted" on the screen..

Its been tried with a Vodaphone and an O2 sim..The imei no. is 351514008376464.
