OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 17th February 2010

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 17th February. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS lovelies,
Stressedout - Congrats on the exam results! Well done you!
Remmie - That is lovely, I am so pleased for you that the kindness you showed all those years ago has come back to bless you.
Bitsy and Sandy - My OH loves millionaires shortbread but like you guys, neither of us have the patience to make it.
redruby - that chair is lovely but am very glad you didn't have to pay those sort of prices for it!
lowesy - Hope you get to Gatwick in plenty of time hon and enjoy your break away with your husband.
Taplady - put the kettle on, I will be round!
We have colonies of slow worms in the corner of our garden and in our neighbours back garden so see plenty of them during the summer. And lots of postive thoughts going out to your cousins wife.
Haribo - What great bargains from the tip!
Curlytop - good luck at the hospital hon.
Sandy - I love slow worms and snakes too, but I don't think taplady shares our love of all things reptilian.

Tristan seems to be healing Ok though his breathing is still a huge problem, his lung hasn't returned to anything near the capacity it should have. Michelle is doing much better which is great.
Was sent this link in an email for free beetroot and spinach seeds which are available in a day or two for anyone wanting some!
Breakfast today will be porridge, and lunch will be more coronation chicken as I made far too much yesterday. Might just have it on a big salad rather than in sandwiches again though. Dinner will tuna flan made with the tuna we bought from Morrisons (£1.80 for four cans, a real bargain) and baked potatoes.
Am hoping to do some baking today, my OH has requested twinks - (I fancy making some apricot ones flavoured with vanilla) and I would like to make some low sugar rock buns. I use just 1.5oz of sugar and it makes 12 - 14 buns. The rest of the 'sugar' in the recipe I swap for sweetener. Not sure what else to bake but sure inspiration will strike - maybe a coffee sponge for my OH.
I hope everyones day is as good as it can be, and that anyone feeling poorly
feels better soon. With love, light and squishy
for all.

HI everyone - I'm back from having a wonderful time in the UK, catching up with family and friends, drinking some wine, eating great food, and, well, just thoroughly enjoying myself. The only drawback was that the ten days went so quickly.
My new grandchild, Summer, is six months old and really really gorgeous. We've not seen her since she was ten days old but she took to us straightaway which was brilliant. Both DGS and DGD1 seem to have grown taller and look so grown up now, it makes me realise just what I'm missing since we moved over here. Still, at least we're not that far away and they're all coming out here in May, hopefully, so it won't be too long to wait.
I haven't had time to catch up with all the news on here so I hope everyone is well.
MSD - glad to hear that Tris and Michelle are doing a little better; hope that continues.
OS-wise, I have the inevitable mountain of washing to get through so that will be the first job of the day.
Dinner will be sausages, mash and beans, now that I have a supply of beans brought from the UK - it's been months without them and the ones they sell here just don't compare!
Anyway, off to have another cuppa of good old British PG.
Have a great day, all.

Morning peeps
its bloomin freezin this morning  when i first looked outside i thought that it had snowed but its actually very thick frost - took me ages to scrape the car. Had a peek at the weather forecast last night and i hope that its wrong as it has forecast snow for our area well into March
I`m dying to get the garden sorted out, each time i get a day off the weather puts paid to my plans, think i`d like a tiny piece of the eden project at home :rotfl:
Not much to report really other than the usual, washing machine and dishwasher on and i took a lovely loaf out of the breadmaker before i left the house. Think that a lovely warming plate of steaming beef stew is on the cards for later.
Mioliere - Glad that you enjoyed your visit, enjoy your cuppa!
Redruby - Your new chair is fab, let me know if you ever get fed up with it
I`m sure that there was someone else that i was going to mention but my mind has gone blank
Best get my mountain of w*rk done.
Have a good day everyone, keep safe and warm.

Morning All!
I woke up at 5 and made a cuppa. Went back to bed with the cat and watched neighbours. Haven't seen it for months, and was quite shocked at how much Susan's MS has supposedly got worse! Mine hasn't been good recently either, don't know if it made me feel better or not seeing her like that:rotfl:
Anyway, some good news.... Was supposed to be going to a Tribunal today for my ESA claim. The DWP doctor had put me in the Work Group, and I was appealing to be put in the Support group. Well at 2pm yesterday I got a phone call that told me that the Tribunal had looked at my papers again and I'd won my appeal!:T
I didn't have to go today, they have put me in the support group, and I will be getting more money, and backdated to last July!:T So pleased. This has been very stressful for me. I know the Government has to weed out benefit cheats, but I didn't ask to have MS, and have never claimed anything in my life before, so it was good to get justice for once!
Seeing my Dad this morning, physio this afternoon.
Kathy, glad you are home safe. Can't believe Summer is six months old already. I am eagerly looking forward to my first grandchild in April!
(((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))) to those who need them.
Have a great day.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Morning everyone.
Got a cold coming
Felt pretty rough last night so went to bed bang on time. Time to break out the eccinachea (I can never spell that word
).
Off to see my Grandparents this morning with the kids and my new mindee and his mum are coming round this afternoon to sign contracts. So any OS will have to fit in between that lot!
Tea tonight will be a chicken stir fry. Bought some Mr S Basics Stir Fry pack - lots of shredded savoy cabbage, beansprouts, carrots in it (far too big a pack for us so will share it with my mum). Not so keen on bean sprouts TBH but hey ho - I'll just have to pick those out LOL!
Sunnyday - Snow until March  Mind you according to my mum there was snow on the ground when I was born in mid March - now I am lover of the white stuff but by March even I am looking forward to spring.
lowesy - have a lovely holiday
mioliere - Oh my I can't believe how quick the last 10 days has gone. I bet the time til May will fly by. Hope you took back with you enough PG to last til they come over
Diva - thanks for the link. Don't need any beetroot but do fancy the spinach seeds
Haven't read end of yesterdays thread so will go and have a nose.
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.
Edited to add:
Hilstep - well done on your appeal :TI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Morning all!
Diva-thanks for the link-will try and get some when they become available.
Hilstep-thats brilliant and it must be such a weight off your mind that you haven't got to go to tribunal today.
Well my hospital appointment went very well. They are going to do various tests and I have to see a councellor to see if I will be a suitable single parent-HEFA regulations. Then she was suggesting that my next step would be IVF-that I pay for. The cost was significantly less than I thought but didn't include the drugs so I'll have to wait and see if I am deemed suitable and then get a full estimate of cost I am also looking into going abroad for treatment. The doctor was absolutely lovely and even said that she hopes she sees me at my next appointment as I had been so pleasant to deal with-don't know what they usually get!!!
Need to clean the inside of the car today as its going for MOT tomorrow. DD has just come downstairs, she really could've done with a longer sleep after some late nights.
Better go and get her breakfast.
Hugs to those that would like.July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Don't think its going to happen, but will keep you in mind

Morning all,
Freezing cold here too, thick frost, OH has had to scrape his car off this morning, I love the fact that I can just get in mine and drive off with no scraping involved :T
Work today, and only two more sleeps till dd comes home, :T.
OH came home from work yesterday literaly dripping wet, not for the first time he had to strip off down here
, and shove all his clothes in the wm, I will go and put them onto wash before work, he had been outside most of the day in the pouring rain.
We are having a steak sandwich for dinner tonight, with mushrooms, onion garlic etc, steak was on offer a few weeks ago. Last night I made a kind of chow mein which we has with salmon, it was lovely, my dd will love it.
We are having our pancakes on Sat with dd, OH wanted maple syrup on his but sainsbugs wanted £5 a jar , he can have golden syrup
Kathy nice to see you back, and glad you had a great time xx
Hilstep :T:Tbrilliant news well done you xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone, more than a bit chilly this morning, have just fed my noisy neighbour the blackbird. He has definitely got a nest in the tree at the bottom of the garden. He is getting used to popping up in the morning and sitting outside the window on the flat roof and squawking until I get my act together and put out some edible bits.It seems he's partial to the odd ryvita crunched up (ran a bit short on breadcrumbs yesterday) so hopefully he will not get too obese. My youngest DGS said I should give him a name apart from that noisy perisher, so he has been christened Basil.Hopefully when his Mrs gives birth he will bring the little ones up for a feed.
I have to drop one of the boys (Ben) off fishing this morning at 9.30. he has been longing to go, and it looks as though the rain will hold off till late afternoon, not that it would stop him.He has a set of waterproofs and his pal has a small tent that they can huddle in if it gets showery. Then I guess I will take the three little ones out somewhere I will surf the BBC Kent site to see what's available for 5-10 year old boys. I sat with them yesterday afternoon and they were very good.Mikey and I watched 'Dr Seuss's Horton hears a Hoo' in the afternoon whilst I did a few blanket squares, then I made them some pancakes. Have decided to give up chocolate and gin for Lent. Not that I have a great deal of the latter, but it is a luxury that I enjoy. Plus being off chocolate for 40 days won't hurt my waistline (what's left of it)
Watched Robbie Williams last night on the Brits, and he seems to get better everytime I see him. My DD and I saw him in concert in 2006 in Amsterdam and he really was very good.He definitely can 'work' and audience.
Well, enough of my dribblings, time to get a wriggle on porridge for me for breakfast as that's nice, and both warming and filling and I will need some energy for the three little ones today.have a good Wednesday everyone ,have you noticed how light the evenings are getting, spring must be soon on its way
Take care all

Good Morning All
Mioliere - Glad you had a lovely trip
Hilstep - :j:jFantastic News
MSD - hope Tris & Michelle continue to improve
Redruby - luckily our local shop had Maple Syrup on special this week, it is so expensive though.
Didn't get on here yesterday, was out most of the day and when I got home tried to come on the site but it kept getting stuck
Had a good day yesterday, went shopping in Chelmsford after the Orthodontist as kids had some money to spend. Found that Chelmsford have Lakeland :T:j:D which is just fantastic news and spent a while in there, was very busy though and kids were getting bored so will definately have a trip back once half-term is over.
Today am in the office most of the day and ironing the rest, cant moan though as am out tonight with my old workmates as its someone's birthday so OH will be in charge of dinner tonight.
Hope didn't miss any major news yesterday, (((hugs))) wherever needed.x0 -
