buying a dvd recorder - help!

hi guys, hope you can help me with this:

i wanna buy a new recorder but just wanna be sure i know what i need to know (if that makes sense!). i.e. my TV has integrated freeview, so do I need a dvd recorder with freeview or not?

am i right in thinking that if you don't do that much recording it's better to get a recorder as opposed to a recorder with a HDD?

i'm not after a fancy recorder, a decent mid-range would be fine. any recommendations?

thanks guys x

  • I am not aware of any TV that is able to output a Freeview signal that you can record, so you will need a DVD recorder with a tuner built in. I have a Sony HDD/DVD recorder and would recommend one of those. It is so much more convenient to watch programmes off a hard disk, rather than a series of DVDs, and more versatile too.

If the budget allows i would recommend a DVD recorder with a built in hard drive. You can record programs onto HD and then erase it afterwards hence saving on DVDs. You can erase adverts etc and edit the program before transferring onto DVD.

You need to have a recorder with a freeview in order to record from freeview unless you have sky/virgin cable from which you can record from. My Sony LCD tv has a scart which feeds signal from freeview to the DVD recorder. Have not used it myself.

The family have a few Panasonic DVD/HD recorders and swear by it, found them to be better than pioneer.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Definately worth getting one with a hdd.....
[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,

I have a Humax - can record 2 progs at once and you can view a third. About £129 I think? Its on amazon. If you get the bigger one its £159. Both are twin tuners, which is what you want.

I know lots of people who love their Humax machines, but you can't burn a DVD from them can you?
