No line rental tariff .. please explain

My husband got a "Fresh" (Carphone Warehouse) sim card a few months ago on a no line rental tariff.  He's had nothing but problems with them and their "customer services" is diabolical.  Having sent two letters of complaint (since November), he's had no response at all and when he's tried to call, all they say is send another letter in!

Even though he's got lots of credit, they've now "barred" all calls, he can't get any sense out of anyone and he's had enough.

Does anyone know if you can cancel this at any time (he doesn't pay by Direct Debit, though he did sign a contract)?

He's tried this in the past when he's experienced (many) other problems with Fresh. The staff, although helpful, were on a hiding to nothing when dealing with Fresh by 'phone ... even virtually told us they're a waste of time. ::)
