My child is 11 years old and has got
Hypermobility Syndrome (Since born)
Dyspraxic (2007) Diagnosed
ADHD (2007) Diagnosed

Anyway.. When i put the forms in I didnt expect to get it as in general she is ok but does need special help and can sometimes be physically aggressive and her age is 6-8 the school has said, We cant allow her to do some of the stuff that kids at 11 want to do and allways make sure that if she goes out she is with a friend.

We have tried to allow her to goto school on a bike but her hips course her a lot of pain so now she goes on the bus (now hampshire county have agreed to fund a bus pass)

I guess that is why we got the Low Mobility for her probs with her hips and the Medium care for her ADHD

The form i filled in I didnt over do it I just put stright answers to the question. Most of the questions had 5-6 words and thats about it. Some people told me to list everything but I hate doing forms and I did miss some of the questions and put NO to some and now changed that but that wont do change anything.

Anyway.. I think the money will come in handy for her now as we are going to get her into swimming every week and more time with friends at the cinema and really to help her social skills and her team building etc. I am going to put most of her DLA into actitives for her etc.

Is that right?

I never really thought about claim and only did because others had told me that she maybe would get it and it will help her..

What else could I do to help her more.

  • My son gets low rate mobility for his dypraxia and dyslexia. We use the money to fund private tution (reading) and also music lessons i.e. guitar, piano. He is also getting some physio to help with fine motor skills. His DLA has been a blessing for him and we could not afford these activities without it.
I can't give you advice on how you should spend your DLA as each child has different needs and only you know your child best but maybe try different activities with her and see if anything 'clicks'. Art therapy - through using clay also helped my son so maybe something like that?

    Yes.

I have taken a couple of days and checked out issues that other people have and I have to admit my daugher is a angel compared to other peoples but thats why people are different.

My daughers main issues are that she likes playing with children 3 years younger then her age which I am not sure if I should try to get her in with new groups her own age or with younger age.. She get s alot of extra help at school.

We are spending about £20 a week on new things for her todo and the other money on family stuff and also for the whole family to do fun stuff together etc

I have to admit I do fell that the money is going to help us a great deal but I dont know if we should have it. Its a wierd thing I have... It worked out that her ADHD will bring us a extra £120 a week inc tcredits extra and theres people out there getting social at getting half that.

Maybe i need to get over that and just get her to enjoy fun stuff more.
  • don't for one minute feel guilty - if your daughter wasn't entitled to it she would not get it! and DLA is a very difficult benefit to get because of the strict criteria.
My son is about 4 years behind his peers and did not get on with his peers (mainly because he was intimidated by them) I placed him into group activities (mainly his music classes) with kids of all ages and he loves it and now gravitates to kids his own age. It does take time but I would persevere with your daughter and try and get her into group activities - what does she like doing?
  • You are genuine so don't fret :)
Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool

  • I should also add that I put £15pm from his DLA into a savings account to be accessed by him when he's 18.
  • i only get low rate mobility for my daughter aged 11 for her adhd and dyslexia ,i use all the money for my daughter on activities or holidays wheer if i didnt , we would not get a break away and she loves going away on holidays as its hard for her to mingle with children of her own age as she is hard work as a friend,my 2 sons are in process of being diagnosed with adhd too.
