We shouldn't have to. Would love to know what the shop manager said if the OP asked them about this?:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

But it wasn't like the till operator was going out their way to make your life harder. It will have flagged up on their screen saying 'Ask for ID' or something similar. Yes they should have used common sense, but, if that can potentially cost them their job for not ID'ing you, then fair enough.
If I was the till operator, and I knew I could loose my job for not ID'ing you, no matter how trivial the item may be, I wouldn't serve you it without you presenting ID. Why should I risk loosing my job because someone in HQ things you should present ID to buy a meal with wine sauce in?
How can the till operator lose their job?
Now I like to think I have a little knowledge of the law (13 years combined military and civilian experience) and I cannot think how a till operator could be sacked for selling a tomato based cooking sauce to someone who presents three separate government approved identification cards and who is also paying with a credit card. Because even if the till prompts that you should ask for ID, there is obviously no need, because there is no legal age for owning, cooking or even drinking tomato based cooking sauce.

I agree, your first thought wouldn't be 'Hmmm, I must take ID'. But leaving the rest of your shopping because they wont sell you an item? Surely thats well over the top? And then to come on here and call the till operator a moron. Why is that necessary? She was only doing her job. The till will have asked her to ask the customer to present ID. Why is that her fault? Why does that make her a moron?
And in my mind thinking you can use a credit card as proof of age is moronic. It doesn't mean I'm going to call him a moron for it though because what seems moronic to one person, may not seem it to another. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
Please DO try to read the thread, as has been mentioned COUNTLESS times, there is NO ALCOHOL in a Chicken in White Wine Sauce. Unless we are going to go full circle again to dispute this method I suggest you PROVE the alcohol content in such a product. I.E. NONE.
And as I have already said and apologised for above, I didn't read all 15 pages. If you had read all the thread you would have noticed this, so please don't moan at me when I have already apologised. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -

I see your point. And whilst you may know this, that doesn't mean the till operator does. You have had a while to google the contents etc... She, on the other hand, was presented with a prompt on her screen, saying 'Does the customer have ID' and had to make a decision. I don't blame her for erring on the side of caution. In all her training, she would have been taught never to sell an ID'able item to a customer without ID. She was just doing her job.
Yes it was stupid, yes you should have been able to buy your meal, yes someone has been an idiot. But, I don't personally think the till operator has done anything wrong. She was just doing what her managers have drilled into her to do.This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -

She is a moron because she had very little common sense, and also because it is moronic to ask for ID to buy a tomato based cooking sauce an item that has no age restrictions on it and then to not take the offered ID. Ergo she is a moron.
A credit card can only be attained by someone over the age of 18 years of old and my credit card if you are over 21, but I full understand that the till monkey wouldn't know that.
A Police Warrant Card is the same, over 18...
My Army ID card states my date of birth on it, has holograms and other security features..
My Government Security Zone pass also.
To get the above 3 forms of ID I had to fill out more forms than I care to think of, go through several background checks, masive amounts of training, provide other forms of ID and more than 6 people were my references.
Yet those weren't acceptable to buy a tomato based cooking sauce, however a CitizenCard would have been. To get a CitizenCard you have to provideTwo Photos, one of which must be signed by an eligible verifier.
If using Route 1, a photocopy of your birth certificate or certified copy of birth certificate, passport, photo-driving licence, NHS medical card, National Insurance card or National Identity Card which must be signed by an eligible verifier. Please DO NOT send original documents.
Hmm, I know which one is more secure. It must be accepted as a principle that the rifle cannot replace the speed of the horse, the magnetism of the charge and the terror of cold steel.

Yep I left the rest of my shopping because I have no desire to give my money to a shop that is populated by idiots.

But if Co-Op don't accept those types of ID, how is that her fault? It's not like she specifically asked for those types of ID to not be accepted. SHE IS DOING HER JOB! Till staff aren't exactly paid to think, they are paid to scan items and take payment from the customer.
It's not her policy to ID for that particular product.
