BT Infinity - Anyone got this yet?

Hi All,

The BT Infinity broadband service is now available in my area. I am thinking of switching from O2 broadband. Currently getting 15meg down and 1.2Meg up. BT have estimated that I can get 22Meg Down and 7 Meg up. I am very interested in the high upload speeds due to hosting online games.

I was just wondering though what BT's monthly download limit will be on their Infinity 'unlimited service' as it doesn't specify an exact figure in their T&C's.

At the moment I am currently downloading between 100GB-150GB on O2, would this be a problem with BT?

Thanks in advance!

You won't get charged, but 100GB - 150GB that's quite a lot and is likely to trigger the speed throttling. I don't know the exact figures BT uses either - but I'd be very surprised if 100GB wasn't over it.

The same fair use for BT Option 3 unlimited applies to BT infinity - and I don't think BT are very well known for their lenience.

"Customers who are classified as very heavy users will experience significantly reduced speed at peak times (typically 5pm-midnight every day but these times may change depending on the demand on the network) for a period of 30 days, or for as long as very heavy use continues."

You'd be better off with Virgin 50Mb XXL - if you want to attempt anything faster than ADSL2+ as that has no fair use policy (availability check here http://www.chooseisp.co.uk/broadband-...virgin-media-broadband-xxl-phone.asp). Although you need to be in a cabled area (which I guess you're not if you're looking at BT infinity).

I am in a cabled area and the XXL service is something which I am able to order but I am not too sure about installation. Just concerned at how intrusive the outside omnibox will look. It's a shame the omnibox cant be installed at the rear of the house otherwise it would have been perfect for me.

Have you seen the size of it? I don't know if they've changed it, but I had VM at a house and the box outside was no more than maybe 20cm to 30cm tall and about 10cm - 20cm wide, maybe about 10cm deep. Coloured kind of off-whitish. It wasn't very obstrusive, they normally put them down low, perhaps you could hide it behind your recycling box?

I don't think it would put me off, but maybe you live in a very pretty house!!

Grow a bush or get a big pot plant!!

Yes - about that size (the black one - can't see a green one?!). Mine was white though, and didn't have a pipe around the cables coming out the bottom. Also didn't have that smaller one next to it.

Just need to have a look at the best way of installing it as I would like the modem to go in the second floor bedroom(facing front of the house). Will have a look in daylight tomorrow.

You won't get much say where they put the box outside but they will route the cable in a sensible way. Can't you put a large flower pot in frotn of it if it is really a problem for you?

It is possible yes, but it depends where they decide to place the box.
