Try Barclays. Make sure you ask for the basic cash account and you'll need to open it in branch and take some i.d. in with you and you can do it there and then and even get an account number. Check out the Barclays website as to what i.d. you'll need.
This happened to me (natwest closing the account). I have also had problems with the Co-op as they lost £300+ of my money, i'm back with barclays and I can;t say I have had a problem0 -

Try Barclays Bank, I have not had a problem with them. I am in the process of closing my Co-op account and getting everything diverted out of co-op after they lost £300+ of my money! Nightmare! Anyway, I am back with barclays with there cash card account.0 -
I thought that when I was made Br, naively, that I could relax but now Im worrying about my tax payments, bank account closing and still have creditors ringing me at work
So I shall take a deep breath and try to calm down lol:j0 -

Oh I didnt know trying to process payments with your coop visa electron and there not been enough funds in the account went against you. Its an honest mistake though how are you meant to know? I did it last month online as I thought I had money in my account, I tried twice, will this be 2 bad marks against my account?0

As far as I know trying to use the card with insufficient funds will count as a black mark.
Although co-op are very strict about this, they are also very good at letting you know the true position of your account. If you call them (24 hours) they will not only let you know the balance on the account, but also what debits have been authorised but not yet debited, thus giving you a true picture. If I ever think I have less than about £100, I will always call first to check before using the card.
