ds was 11 when he went (a young 11)...like yours he had been to cub camps for a weekend here and there

there were a lot of nerves before he went but he seemed to pal up . in his room they were all on their own without friends so i guess that pushed them together. i spent the week worried sick and he cam back full of how fantastic it was and could he go back next year.. typical huh lol. stil i wouldnt want it any other way

  • Our DD went on the same camp as a neighbour, but they were in separate groups when they got there. She came back with loads of friends.

Just had the paper brochure through- and an awful lot of the coaches appear to pick up at 75 minutes past the hour...neat trick!!

Has anyone sent their child on their own or have they always gone with a friend or relative?

My daughter went to an ATE camp at the age of 9 with a friend but they weren't in the same group, but she went to the Do it 4 Real camp last year by herself (aged 15) and made loads of friends which is why she's returning to the same one this year. (all booked and paid for now :T)

There are young adults there - can't remember what they're called but they're sort of chaperones and there's one to each group of about 5 who make sure the children are OK and settling in :)

My 15 yo son is booked for Winmaleigh Hall (sp?) ALL ACTION for 1st Aug 2010 (we got the early bird discount for £49 meaning I could afford to get the insurance (£6.50) on top)

We asssumed the pick up would be Hull Interchange (Train and Coach) which he could have caught a train to but now find out it's from a park and ride which is impossible to get to on public transport on a Sunday.

    I don't drive.....

Are there any parents out there in the East Riding (Beverley and District) with a child going that week who could give my son a lift? I would of course pay petrol costs

They won't let me/him post this on their forum as it's giving out too much info on the public domain but this forum has a PM system and between us we can sort something, we might even find our boys go to the same school? in which case it will easier to meet up at say parents evening and discuss?

    Many thanks....

I hope you wont be offended by this but you have just posted on an open forum that you want a stranger to pick up your son ? Please be very carefull not everyone uses forums for the same reasons. Dont you have a friend or relation that could take him?

If you read again I've said IF they go to my Son's School I will meet them (and their Son) at the Parents evening this month, that way I can verify their ID via the teachers. We may find we do know each other but as with 'free' school dinners there is a lot of stigma attached to these type of 'holidays' and one of his classmates wouldn't necessarily admit they are going

And NO I don't have relatives to help (My family live in the Potteries) Another option is to get him in a taxi and hope it arrives in time to get him there AND that it turns up to bring him home. He's posted a notice on his School Noticeboard/Website to see if anyone in another year is going - so far nothing.

If you log onto the Doit4Real site there is a forum where the kids post and arrange to meet etc BEFORE the holidays via BeBo/MySpace/Facebook and all that sort of site - not something I'm happy with him doing as he could be arranging to meet an adult (posing as a child) without my knowledge.

But I thank you for your concern.......

Bat, if he went by taxi and it was late- the coach would wait for him. Last year the one dd was on waited for almost an hour for latecomers. I'm sure they would have to wait with him when he returned, too.

Not the best situation, but I wouldn't fret about him being a few minutes late.

Dammit - I meant to bump this a few days ago because the £30 off was only until yesterday :o

Anyway - places still left at normal price of £79 (if you're on work & child tax credits) which covers the trip away of 5 nights/4 days PLUS transport PLUS food and I'm not sure if all of them have a day trip somewhere - but my daughter went to Alton Towers with them last year which was also included in the price :j

Here is the run down of all prices depending on your circumstances:

£299 - The higher concession price is available to all.
£159 - The middle concession price is available to participants from families who are eligible to receive Child Tax Credit.
£79 - The lower concession price is available to participants from families who are eligible to receive Income Support, Working Families Tax Credit or free school meals.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Aaargh - They've changed the pick up from Birmingham - used to be the airport which was ideal as I could just hop on and off the train - now it's Birmingham North - AKA Wolverhampton!!!!!

Now I just have to see who I can scrounge a lift from - on a blooming Sunday when Public transport is possibly at it's worst!!!!
