SIXT car hire - Dont Get stung!!!

Options
 Not impressed.

Just been to Munich and we hired a car......it told us we had to take it back with a full tank or if not they would fill it at a 'slightly' higher cost.

Now the forecourts were charging 1.10E per litre, Sixt charged us 3E per litre, costing us an extra 140E.....cheeky robbing twits!

Dont think there is anything I can do to reclaim so just thought id give you a steer clear....:)

The cost for re-fueling should be on your rental agreement.

If you don't want to fill up the tank before returning the vehicle (or may not have the time to), you can opt for a pre-paid tank of fuel at pretty much forecourt prices.

You may find that most people are aware of all car hire companies' inflated charges for re-fueling, so don't expect too much sympathy for a rant directed at one particular outfit.

I can see where they are coming from as they have to send someone to the petrol station on your behalf. Arguably, EUR 140 is a bit over the top though. In my view, it should be charged at actual fuel cost plus a flat rate (EUR 20 / EUR 30 maybe?) irrespective of how much fuel they have to put in. Would seem fairer to me. If one of them could be persuaded to start this, I am sure the others would be forced to follow. As it is, it's a nice little earner on the side.

Still nothing new though and nothing to take a shot at Sixt in particular over.

    P.S.: What kind of car was this?? At EUR 1.10/l it can only have been a Diesel (as petrol in Germany is more like EUR 1.40/l), and a Diesel with a 75 l tank ... ? (EUR 3.-/l - EUR 1.10/l = EUR 1.90/l; EUR 1.40 : EUR 1.90/l = 73.68 l)

It simply stated that it may be slightly dearer - not over double the price!!

It may not be anything new....but im new to car hiring on holiday (never done it before) so i thought id give some people a heads up.

As for fuel.....we went to Austria and it was 1.10. Suggest heading over the boarder if its that much more expensive!

If you have to put 70+ litres in to fill it up I would guess that is filling an empty tank in most cars.
