Going over monthly allowance with Sky broadbank

Hi
Received an email from Sky yesterday, to say we have gone over our monthly allowance of 2gb. This is the first time we have received such an email and it contained a link to check usage. Checked it and looked at previous usage and the past 3 months all said we had used around 12gb. This is the first time we have received this email, should we have got one previously. They said if we go over again they are going to put us on the £5 a month broadband. Is this some kind of sky ploy to get more money from us if we have clearly gone over before and it hasn't been an issue? Has anyone else had this with sky?

Sky are now monitoring most peoples usage, you can check your's on your mySky account.
If you go over on two more occasions they will move you up to the Everday package @£10/month (£5 if you have Sky Talk), you will get an up to 10Mbps/10 Gb cap for that.
If you go over that then they will move you to the unlimited package which is up to 20 Mbps @ £15/month (£10 if you have Sky Talk)
PS Yes it is a ploy to get more money out of you.

Cheers I appreciate that. The part that confused me was that they only sent me an email yesterday regarding usage where according to their website we had gone over the last three months. They are clearly feeling the pinch lol xx0

I am on the mid sky and this has happened to me also. I got my first email at the beginning of Feb saying I had gone over my limit and then got another email a few days ago saying I had already used 70% of my 10gb quota and still 20 days to go!!!
I am wondering if they have used the amount I went over last month to start this months off as I find it strange that I have used up over 70% of my allowance in 6 days.
Mine also said I had used 12gb the previous 3 months so I am not convinced their readings in that regard are correct.
I also find it strange that you cannot see the exact amount you have used over the past month or so, we only have their word that we are actually going over.
I am not happy with this at all and I expressed my concerns when I was first advised in July/August that they were dropping the download allowance by 75%. I rang them on Sunday and was told to put my comments in writing which I intend to do in the next day or so as soon as I have a chance to compose my letter (its going to be a long letter so I need to spend time on it).
My problem is my exchange does not support a lot of the cheaper broadband offers, I checked over the weekend, so it looks like I will have to pay the extra £5.
I am getting sick of sky, first they double the price and then they drop the download allowance by 75% - I think they want us all on the top rate or on their phones.
As soon as I manage to find someone cheaper for a better download allowance I will be leaving them - I have no loyalty to a company that treats its customers this way.0
