Ham and grated cheese make lovely twists too. As do anchovy paste or gentlemens relish. Or curry paste and mango chutney. Or pate.Put the kettle on.0

Thanks Alison - I have got some tins of anchovies and bound to have some pate sometime before Christmas ... curry paste is good idea too .
Thanks x Just need to remember all the suggestions now xBon App's Scraps!MFb40 # 130 -
my nan used to make hardbakes with the leftover pastry.. add some sultanas and a bit of sugar, roll thick, cut with cutter, or shape by hand and bake with whatever you are making.. i think...0

If you ever have leftover PUFF pastry:
Cut 4 inch square(s)
Brush with almond essence (this bit is important - even if you only brush the edges)
Put a teaspoonful of stewed apple (you live in Normandy: don't tell me you haven't got this) and a couple of sultanas in the middle
Press edges together into a triangle and cut two slits in the top to let out the steam
You can freeze it as is or bake and freeze. When you are ready to serve, cover with some fairly runny icing (just made with icing sugar and water) and either bung under the grill or in the oven for a few minutes until the icing bubbles. Serve warm.
These are the most fantastic "pretend" Danish pastries. Absolutely scrum.0 -
Granny's flat cake.
Not savoury I'm afraid! Roll out the pastry. Sprinkle half with suger, mixed spice and dried fruit. Fold the plain half over , seal edges and bake. Serve hot or cold spread with butter.0 -
I dont have any clever things to add! Like you i make "tarts" but I love the swiss roll type ideas! Thanks OP, and all posters, I have some to use up tomorrow so will take inspiration!
JexI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -
leftover puff pastry can be cut into shapes - put on a half cherry tomato or ripe tomato slice top with a basil leaf and then put a good sprinkle of strong cheese (my fave is white stilton - cos i dont like blue cheese - but you can use that if you prefer) on top - cook in medium oven .
or - wrap around some chipolata sausages.
or just sprinkle with brown sugar and add some dried fruit drizzle with honey and bake in oven0 -
I think I will have to make up a batch of pastry to try some of these ideas............:D0
