BT Pension Index Linking
Comments
-
The BT CWU union members have voted at conference to tackle the RPI to CPI issue with BT. This is positive news at last for many BT pensioners, but it is only the start of the fight for justice. You still NEED to write a personal letter to Accenture and put your case for the restoration of RPI indexing, if you have not done so already. Personal letters of complaint can only add to the unions fight, the more that Accenture receive the more BT will have to take notice.
The full text of the motion carried by this year’s CWU conference is as follows:
‘Conference notes that following the Government’s switch from the Retail Prices Index (RPI) to the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) as their measure for inflation, BT has changed the BT Pension Scheme (BTPS) indexation arrangements and is using CPI for Section A and B pensions in payment and deferred pensions, as well as Section C deferred pensions. The move to using CPI, which is based on the current wording of the Trust Deed, is highly likely to be detrimental to BTPS members as the CPI consistently results in a lower rate of inflation than the RPI.
Conference wholeheartedly supports the CWU’s opposition to BT’s switch to CPI especially given the recent changes to the BTPS.
Conference instructs the T&FSE to investigate whether there is a potential legal route that could be used to reverse the CPI decision by BT; to negotiate with BT other ways of mitigating the changes for Section A/B members; and to campaign to seek the reinstatement of the RPI as the measure for inflation.’0 -

Eh? Exactly how are you hoping to offset BT saving £2.9 billion by writing letters? What the heck is in it for them? They do it because they can. BT is still overstaffed. They hold the cards. You don't bud. Get over it. Writing your personal pleading to Accenture (do they make the decision, isn't it BT, enabled by the Government?) is going to do what, exactly? In the immortal words of Rhett Butler, quite frankly, they don't give a damn.
and you 'bud' sound like the sort of person who does nothing but snipe from the sidelines...if we relied on the 'it's a waste of time' merchants like you then kids would still be up chimneys
my union is taking action in the courts...they will have to 'give a damn' if it goes our way0 -
Do not be deterred by the negative comments, keep up the fight for a pension we paid for with the clear expectation and understanding that inflation linking was to be to the RPI.0

Accenture, you know - the company contracted to stamp that grotesque black logo on your previously nicely laid out pension-slip, but who promply decided to only send you one a year. Just to prove how competent they were.
For a company that wastes a whole rainforest of paper the way BT does it just doesn't make sense.
Though it probably says alot about the type of people that head BT nowadays when you look at the history of ACCENTURE'.
A US company previously known as 'Andersen Consulting,' they were heaviliy involved in the 'Enron' Scandal, and changed their name to 'Accenture' when their director and co-founder was barred from practicing accountacy in the U.S.
I seem to remember they're the same company that were contracted to computerise the Manchester police payroll many years ago, terminated due to their outright incompentence.
It was not long after that they craftily changed their name, and more recently were the ones responsible for computerising NHS records, which also failed miserably and has cost the taxpayer billions.
Hardly the type of people any responisble company management would want administering their Pension scheme.:eek:0 -

Oh, and to those negative posters. I entered into the BT Pension scheme some 37 years ago. Ever since I entered the increase was always going to be RPI.
BT's debt is due to the people at the top who, I am sure, will still get THEIR pensions in full.0 -
We get our day in court
The High Court has agreed to hear our case week beginning 4 July.
Let's hope our people do a good job of blowing the Treasury arguments clear out of the water.
Not long to wait now.

It may not be too long to wait but unfortunately to win this case it will require more than to discredit the Treasury's arguments; and the odds do not favour us winning. Despite this I wish our representatives well in fighting for this just cause. If not successful, it will leave political means as the only clear option to right this wrong.
I do hope the Legal challenge succeeds, but I'm prepared to support any political means to get my pension as promised.0 -
