Time off work..

I have a few days off work which I booked just to use up leave. I live alone and find I dont do much

If any of you have time off work do you fill the days with stuff to do? or do you not do much and feel guilty that you have not done anything productive or fun?

Its half term so am leaving the free museums etc to families and kids and will go when its less cold and crowded.

So far all I have done is got up (can never manage a ly in!) logged on here of course:o, had a tea, now have scoffed 2 toast and coffee. All I NEED to do today is pop to local shop to buy bit of fruit and milk so at least I will have a short walk. But yesterday I stayed in all day..watched a bit of tv but I find tv dull during the day mainly surfed the net cooked tea had a bath went to bed...I find the day does go quick mind! it drags at work.

Am I alone in thinking its a waste of a few days or day even to do nothing much or should I not care and make the most of doing 'nothing' lol

Dont get me wrong im not naturally lazy my home is clean I eat healthily etc I just dont copy my work colleagues and have leave booked along with their partners do do short holidays or days out every time, some leave like this is just for me..:D

I do feel dumb when people ask me what did I do when I was off work? (sometimes I make it up to the nosy gossips in my office)

helena I live alone and I love it when I can book a couple of days off just to do nothing. It's nobody else's business but believe me, most coupled up people would envy having nothing specific to do.

Mostly my holidays are used to go away but when I'm using them up, like you, I relish watching rubbish daytime telly and not getting dressed until after Loose Women!

You could do stuff like go to the gym and spend hours there rather than being in a rush, then your evening is free to do whatever (drink loads of wine maybe in the knowledge that you don't have to be at work next day?). If you are not a gymgoer, then you could visit the library, choose some books and lose yourself in them. Take yourself off to a nearby town you haven't visited ever or for ages and just have a wander around. Watch a box set or fave films you haven't seen in an age. Clear out your wardrobe, try out new hairdos and make up.

Take it for what it is - enjoy simply doing nothing. I know I do (in fact most of my weekends are like that - pure bliss!).
  • Oooh I love to do nothing, I also used to wonder if it were a waste of a few days, but have come to the conclusion that if it makes me happy it is not a waste.

If you feel happy and rested on your return to work, then it has been a very valuable few days indeed.

Agree with the above. I do nothing sometimes, brilliant time!

If some people want to rush around all the time, well let them, there are no rules saying we all have to do it :D
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • I love getting some me time dont get much with 3 kids so anytime where i can do nothing is preceous :-)

Sometimes its really good to do nothing if that's exactly what you feel like doing! Personally though I tend to do my relaxing on one evening a week after work and the odd weekend. If I'm using my precious annual leave days I like to feel like I didn't waste them!

I've used leave days to just give the flat a really good scrub and do all the little jobs that don't get done in normal life, I always feel better after doing that. I've used them to spend the whole day in the gym doing various classes, swimming and relaxing in the jacuzzi/sauna.

Don't make stuff up though! Tell your colleagues "I did absolutely nothing all day and it was wonderful" they'll probably be highly jealous.
  • I find it hard to do nothing and always have something to do. I have to be doing something. I get agitated if I don't go out for a walk at some point of my day, that may be more due to hot flushes though. I usually have a list of things to do. I like to relax after getting everything done. I hate the thought that I may have wasted a day.

As I get older I tend to measure life by summers, how many summers have I got left. I am 48 this year, I may only have 15 good summers left in me. I want to make the most of it.

I'm 50, and hope I have more than just 15 good summers left! Is there a 'summers remaining calculation' somewhere that I am not aware of?

This made me laugh though, so thank you!

Just doing nothing is a good way to spend holiday. I was discussing this with a friend yesterday who barely got out of bed on Sunday, mainly watching tv and films she had previously recorded. She was feeling a bit ashamed, but when I said how lovely agreed that it was lovely. I think it's a worse waste of a day to clean the car, a week later to see it just as dirty again! (Apologies to anyone who has a really lovely car and just wants to stroke it really!)

If you would like to do something different one of the days, I'm sure you could get lots of suggestions on here, but if you want some down time, that sounds good to me.
  • Doing nothing is bliss if you don't get to do it much. I know how you feel though, I look back at my day in the evening and always enjoy my nothing time more then if I feel I have achieved something in the daytime.

Maybe you could go to the cinema or something? I think it's still a lovely way to sit on your behind and not really do much, and the tickets are often cheaper in the daytime.

Or how about inviting a friend over and cooking them dinner? That's a lovely way to spend an evening. I live with my son but he is often with his dad so then I am alone and it is nice to do grown up things, even if it's not with a partner.
  • Well I tried to to a bit today and wished I had stayed at home! there is nothing worse than forcing yourself to do something useful ...I went to buy the bits I needed instead of walking to the local shop 10 mins away I went into town which is 25 mins walk which I need to do as I have put on 2 pounds in weight so trying to shift that! and it was last day to use a Tesco voucher £1 off and 100 points on same item which I could not lose I guess.

Anyway loads of people as its half term but you always get the usual families who see going to town as a 'day out' and dont control their kids, I did walk past cinema and wanted to see the film 'Valentine' but when I saw kids roaring up the escalator I walked away! I do like kids by BTW honest!

Im glad im home im no hermit but theres no place like home!

Forgot the bath bomb I wanted and nice foam bath..oh well next time
