Engagement Party

I got engaged in October and I'm having my engagement party in July... It's called the wedding!
I had swine flu when he proposed, it was also our shared birthday and we went to the pub with my sister and her other half a few days later when i wasn't so contagious to celebrate both, but to be honest organising two big parties seems like a lot of effort!0 -
I got engaged on Valentines Day and we are not having an engagment party. We are going to have a meal out and a few drinks with family.
I didn't think engagement parties were that common, I've never been to one, don't know anyone that's ever had one either. I think it's just more expense and that the money could be more wisely put towards the wedding.I :heart2: saving money0 -
We didnt have one, just went for a meal with family and then had some friends round for drinks a few weeks later..
we went to someone elses engagement party and it was painful! mainly family there and no one was really partying or anything...just a load of people stood in a village hall looking around uncomfortably as no one really knew each other! Now a married lady and loving it! Now..to clear that pesky mortgage! :beer:0 -
We did think about getting our families together for a meal but as has been said, the money is better going towards the wedding.
I've never been to an engagement party, never known anyone to have one. I certainly wouldn't be buying engagement presents but that's a whole new discussion!!0 -
We got engaged new years eve and have not had an engagment party, infact we didnt even go out new years eve! I wouldnt want to spend money on a party when I could put the money towards the wedding. I have never been to an egangement party and didnt know that it was that popular. How about a meal with families as a compromise??Married my wonderful husband 29th May 20110

We're thinking of having something as our wedding day will only involve close friends and family and be quite short (no reception etc).
It'll probably just be one big BBQ!0 -
We had one, but it was in the pub and loads of our friends turned up to basically have a laugh
Then we went out with our parents for a meal to celebrate a week later0 -
I had an engagment party (my mum's idea) we had a huge BBQ all the families where there it was fab0

We're having one on 5th March, that's because we'er miles away from both our families and all our long time friends so we wanted a party to celebrate with all these people as the wedding will be where we live and quite a few people won't be able to come. So far, room hire, DJ, buffet has come in at £250, just need a few balloons now0

We had one. Hired out the room above a local bar. We paid £100 for room hire that we had to use towards food or drink. So we had 25 gourmet pizzas for that. It was an absolutely lovely day. We started at 3pm so family could come, then went right through til midnight with our friends. The day cost us about £150 total and my Mum helped with decorations (balloons and flowers). I'd recommend it, but then I love parties!
Oh and the DJ was free but that's because my OH and his DJ friend sorted out a playlist.0
